Could boxing be the newest gay fetish? And, if so, what does it say about the direction of gay culture? A few years ago, soccer and rugby were both consumer obsessions and prime fetish material with David Beckham's hair and bulges flopping across fields. But suddenly, it seems, everyone-from amateur personals sites (link NSFW) to major porn studios-is throwing punches.
Joe Oppedisano (the fashion editor and photographer behind some of
Lucas Entertainment's most memorable images, as well as a recent ad
campaign for Manhunt) released a behind-the-scenes video from his recent boxing-themed photo shoot
(video below) featuring real men practicing mixed martial arts.
And we couldn't forget Falcon International's 2008 GayVN-winning (and boxing-themed) movie, also named Knockout-it followed a slightly grittier, but also fight-themed release, Brawlers from Mustang. And last year, FPG's Topdawgs
featured a boxing story line, as well as real MMA fighter RC Ryan for a
little authenticity. The video that first got us hooked on punching,
however, was a few years earlier: Raging Stallion's Manifesto
featured an extended scene between Remy Delaine and François Sagat,
whose idea of foreplay was slamming on a bag before slobbering on
Delaine. Of course, Sagat would later go on to dress in a full-body
fishnet stocking-just like real-life boxer Oscar De La Hoya
(allegedly) did in private photos
leaked by a stripper. Like the chicken and the egg (or perhaps
chickenhawk and twink), it all comes full circle! (And we didn't even have to mention that Jenna Jameson was dating boxer Tito Ortiz.) Either way, we're up
against the ropes, down for the count and, most of all, cruisin' for a
bruisin'.
