In a move sure to win him friends at the U.N., the President of the progressive African nation of Gambia has declared war on homosexuality, saying that he will "cut off the head" of any homosexual caught in his country. Citing that Gambia was "a country of believers" (it is 85% Muslim) and that he wanted to make it one of the best countries to live in, President Yahya Jammeh vows legislation on immorality and vice "stricter than those in Iran." He has also warned any hotels housing homosexuals that they would face legal trouble as well.
For all those of you getting gay married and planning honeymoons this summer, we'd like to point you to this Gambia Travel Guide to aid in your destination considerations.
In related news, France plans to press the U.N. to pressure governments around the world to abolish bans on homosexuality. France assumes the rotating six-month EU presidency in July, when it will speak for all EU member states at the UN General Assembly.
