The Boys of 'Gossip Girl' Are Jelly of Chace's Sex Appeal and It's Hella Not His Fault
The Boys of 'Gossip Girl' Are Jelly of Chace's Sex Appeal and It's Hella Not His Fault

CS-ggboysTH.jpg Stories of catfights on the set of the CW's Gossip Girl have been emerging from the set since the series hit the small screen. Despite admissions on the behalf of the show's cast and producers that a lot of the rumors are staged for publicity, a new gossip item about the boys has emerged bringing us a new drama of the week from the weekly drama that is our biggest weakness: that actors Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick are up in arms over the attention that Chace Crawford continues to get over them, particularly by Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and George Clooney. "Penn was supposed to be the show's breakout star and now it is obviously Chace, and Penn doesn't like it," an insider revealed to Jo Piazza of the New York Daily News.

While we also love us some Nate (especially now that he was left out for a crucial episode of the show), we can't help thinking that each boy's got it going on as well. Below, hear our theories as to why Chace is the reigning favorite of the crew, and how the other two St. Jude schoolboys might up the ante if they want to take his crown. (Click the images for full-sized versions.)

Penn Badgley aka "Dan Humphries"

With his dark brooding eyes and chiseled features, Penn reminds us of an up and coming Johnny Depp. While he really ought to be the babe of the group, perhaps we'd like him more if his character, the self-righteous older brother Dan, would lighten up and stop being so judgmental. Nobody likes a buzzkill and there's a major difference between sending your dad to rehab (like Nate did) and getting on your girlfriend's case all the time because she used to be a drunk. Outside the show, leaking some hot shirtless pics certainly couldn't hurt either, as that's what got us all to notice Chace in the first place. Rank: 2nd place.

Ed Westwick aka "Chuck Bass"

Ed Westwick has the unfair advantages of both being British in real life and playing the villainous Chuck Bass, who not only tried to rape Jenny Humphries early on in the season, but also took Blair's virginity, told Gossip Girl about it, and alienated all of his friends. We're pretty sure the American adolescent market likes its white bread white, making these affronts unforgivable. While Ed's rock n' roll style adds a dose of Pete Doherty to the cast (and he's the only character we'd ever want to actually party with), it seems once again that the bad boys never win. Rank: 3rd place.

Chace Crawford aka "Nate Archibald"

Chace Crawford is the golden retriever of this pack of mutts, with the blond shaggy hair of a Disney star, a cute boy-next-door smile, the all-American cowboy hat photo and he's the tallest. He's dated former American Idol contestant and country western darling Carrie Underwood, had an old set of shirtless photos emerge on the web, and is the most likely of the three actors to actually play for our team. Not only that, his character on the show tends to be generally sympathetic and conveniently benign. He might be a little bit boring for our sensibilities, but he's still the name that pops up bold in our eyes whenever we see a cast listing. His publicist ought to be given a raise. Rank: 1st place.
