“$25 per person for individual portraits…$20 per person for group portraits”

Remember the Second Class Citizens documentary that was funded on Kickstarter (funded, btw, with well over 3x the amount asked for—it pulled in $176,000)? Sorry to have to remind you. It’s been over a year, and there’s still no documentary about how gay people are treated like shit (pass the popcorn!), but don’t worry, you can donate even more money by spending $25 to have your picture taken in a bar.

In what is an obvious ripoff of the equally maudlin, self-serving, and nauseatingly worthless NOH8 campaign, Second Class Citizens has been having photo shoots for anyone gullible enough to think that photo shoots in gay bars will advance their civil rights. Only instead of silver duct tape over the mouth, this time it’s American flag tape around the wrists.

The Second Class Citizens Campaign is having a shoot in Los Angeles THIS WEEKEND! LGBT individuals in the US are being treated like second class citizens. Come pose and declare to the world that you are NOT a second class citizen!

WHEN: Friday March 22nd, 9:00pm-1:00am

WHERE: MICKY’S WEST HOLLYWOOD

Please wear a black shirt and arrive camera-ready between 9:00pm-1:00am.

$25 per person for individual portraits. $20 per person for group portraits. Cash and Credit Card accepted. All funds are used to support the Second Class Citizens campaign and documentary. Thank you for being a part of this effort to create change!

Swindling money out of drunk gays in a bar by telling them how pathetic their lives are is undeniably sleazy (especially since these photo shoots will be used in a documentary that was already funded), but then again, if you’re dumb enough to fall for it, you get no sympathy from me. Still, wasn’t it enough that people already paid “filmmaker” Ryan James Yezak $176,000 to make his documentary on his own? Now, people are being asked to pay again, this time to be used in footage for his documentary? The people being photographed for the documentary are the ones who should be compensated!

That Yezak’s livelihood is contingent upon convincing as many people as possible that they should feel perpetually victimized is pretty bleak stuff, and if the Supreme Court rules that DOMA and Prop. 8 are unconstitutional later this year (as some say it might), there goes his unhappy ending. Assuming production on the doc continues (and assuming it’s ever released?) in a post-legalized gay marriage world, Yezak will need to find a new way to make people feel like they should feel miserable enough to spend $25 on a new Facebook profile pic or $176,000 on an invisible movie. I guess not being able to donate blood sort of sucks?

    1. That is not Okay!! Love!! Don’t hate!!

I was hoping so too…apparently it’s not :s and 4000+ people fell for this shit…makes me want to commit a gay teen suicide

  1. It’s yet another example of douchebaggery at it’s finest. I think you are 100% spot on that this was little more than a vanity project. Just another “me too” documentary or social campaign meant to raise the profile of the individual or individuals behind it while hiding behind the mask of social responsibility and activism. I think this is very much the case with Mr. Yezak.

As far as the NOH8 campaign, yeah, it’s a bit silly on the surface. And I can’t give you an actual concrete breakdown of accomplishments directed owed to this campaign. But, it is catchy, it is popular and it raised awareness. It’s one of the best advertising as social commentary campaigns I know. Right up their with the pink ribbon. So yeah wearing duct tape on your mouth isn’t going to end discrimination; no more than wearing a pink ribbon will cure breast cancer. But it gets people thinking, talking and hopefully caring. Advertising works. If it doesn’t, then it might be time to start taking all these banners down.

  2. Gay people treat each other like shit. Being fat, ugly, black, asian, or old will make you a 2nd class citizen amongst gays.

  3. This video is VERY creepy!! ANd the best reason to discriminate against gays is the way this dude speaks!! Lord Jesus I’m pretty sure they made this video with what he considered his best photo and just animated a lip-syncing mouth to go with it? Because the top of his face never moves, and he tries to make all these fierce sounds…it just fails.
ANy dumbass that gave one penny to this con artist deserves everything he gets XD
It makes me want to bully little faggits, seriously…Imagine the reaction from straight people? Not a move in the right direction!!

Thankfully it’s not on SHowgirls night (monday) so Raven won’t have to host it! I couldn’t have coped with that.

  4. amm the video is old news, and personally I prefer a well produced gay themed drama movie
(something memorable like “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar”) over this

  5. I thought the whole ‘awareness’ meme was the worst of the worst when it comes to charity cause business, but this truly takes the cake.

  6. WHAT is that AWFUL Screaming Sound (music????) during the climax when he’s teleporting from place to place in that little (bath?)room???? It sounds like a million choirs of angels in pain because he won’t stop talking like a valley girl…Uh Muh Guhd.
