A conversation with one of the curatorial voices behind NakedSword Film Works (NSFW), the bold, new, independent film arm of NakedSword.com.
The vision for NSFW is to create and/or distribute independent gay shorts and features that combine sex with experimental filmmaking to offer a wider range of films to NakedSword members.
Filmmaker Adam Baran elaborates on this vision.
Adam Baran is a filmmaker and film programmer based out of Brooklyn, NY. His short film JACKPOT, about a porn-hunting gay teen, won Best Short Film at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. As a programmer, Adam is best known for co-curating Queer/Art/Film, a critically-acclaimed monthly screening series at the IFC Center in New York. Adam has also programmed shorts and features for Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival and New York’s NewFest. Adam wrote The Sword’s weekly “Fisting for Compliments”, column about the intersection of sex, art, porn, and history and was the online editor of BUTT Magazine, as well as a contributing editor to the publication, for many years. This seems like a great idea. Adam Baran is definitely the right guy to do it. He’s smart and he loves film.
This could be really great for the times when I want to watch something sexier than anything on Netflix, but more story-focussed than porn.
