HBO and Vice have put the entire 50-minute documentary Countdown to Zero, chronicling the rise of the AIDS crisis and the quickening race toward a cure, online for free.
You can watch it all here, and the film is a great, in-depth look at the state of HIV drug treatment and the current advances being made toward the long-sought vaccine.
It’s also got a bunch of chilling old news footage from the dawn of the epidemic with Tom Brokaw talking about a poll that said 50% of Americans favored quarantining all HIV-positive people and some enlightening facts. For instance, did you know nearly 30 million people have died from HIV/AIDS since the first drug cocktails came along in 1996?
