Is Pietro Cattani About To Become The Italian Jake Cruise?

Pietro Cattani found love and left Lucas Kazan in 2003 as their reigning salt-and-pepper daddy. In an exclusive with The Sword, he explains what lured him back to the blue screen as a silver fox.

“I grew up in a small, small village on the Italian Alps”, says Pietro. “I wanted to venture out, to do something different and get noticed.” Thanks to Lucas Kazan, he did. Pietro debuted in 1998 with “Journey to Italy 2”, bottoming for Jake Andrews of Falcon fame. And as it turned out, Pietro’s retirement proved to have a thirteen-year expiration date.

We live in a youth-obsessed culture and most definitely includes gay porn. It is only recently that “phenomenon” has been injected with the reality that a man’s sex life doesn’t end at forty. Or even — gasp — 50. Jake Cruise was one of the first to showcase “intergenerational sex” and he did so without the “gay family fued” backstory that has become a standard plot point in gay porn today.

With Lucas Kazan acting as translator, we asked Pietro Cattani why he left, what he’s been up to, and exactly what this 54-year-old wants the next phase of his career to look like.

The Sword: Pietro, why did you quit in 2003 and why did you come back?
Pietro Cattani: I got engaged. I quit because I chose love. But after 13 years that love ended. I was free to finish something I started long ago and felt … incomplete.

While you did retire from porn, you didn’t disappear altogether, though.
No. I was surprised to find myself something of a model in demand in the mainstream market. My porn fans seemed to follow me to the fashion magazines and billboards and my new fans didn’t seem to care what I had done before. Italians are much more “vivi e lascia viver” (live and let live) than most others.

What does it mean to be a pornstar in Italy as opposed to here in the US?
It isn’t the same as in the US; that’s for sure. For starters, we have no real industry center. Here you’re either looked down upon as a whore or someone “famous” to contact and perhaps make some money with. Somehow, I navigated that better than most.

How do you find porn itself has changed?
Everything’s changed since the ‘golden age’ of porn when I first started. People ask me all the time what I remember most about my porn past. Well, I don’t remember the fucking. I cherish the camaraderie we built with cast and crew over the many weeks of filming. Lucas Kazan used to say those sets were like a school trip on steroids. We had lots of fun. I hope to have fun again.

Is your sex life any different in your 50s?
It hasn’t changed from a physical standpoint. Same drive, same stamina as in my 20s. What changed is … I’m more in touch with my feelings. I look for a real connection, I look for real passion. Rather than getting my rocks off, just for the sake of it. In a way, it isn’t about cumming any longer. It takes a little more than that. It takes your head and your heart too.

What was your initial reaction when Lucas contacted you about a return?
It answered a prayer I didn’t know I asked. I was at a point where my heart, my head, and my body were all three in a place to say, ‘Yes.’ Of course, the idea of working with Robbie Rojo and Alex Magnum didn’t hurt and to my delight, they seemed just as eager.

We hear that silver foxes are quite popular these days.
Oh yes. I’m much sought after by younger guys. Even more so than 20 years ago. But I’m still waiting for love. I know it will happen again for me.
