Grabby Awards Organizer Explains Why There’s No Award For Best Non-Sexual Performance This Year

In a move that effectively denied Jake Cruise the glory of taking home a trophy for his star turn as a pizza delivery boy in Dominic Ford’s Fire Island Staff House, there were no nominations this year for Best Non-Sexual Performance when the Grabby Awards noms dropped earlier this week.

The Sword spoke to Grab Magazine publisher and Grabby Awards organizer Mark Nagel about the SHOCKING move to drop the category this year. And here’s what he said. Maybe you saw this coming… “There just were not enough.”

As for the addition of the Best Supporting Actor category this year, Nagel says, “[It’s] because there were some very good performances this year that were just not the lead.” And those performances would be the likes of Doug Acre in Helix’s Scandal at Helix Academy 2, Tommy Defendi in Dirty Rascals, and the great Brent Corrigan in Falcon’s Jacked. Will this be a chance for Brent to come back and win his 98th Grabby Award?

I also asked why the art direction category got dropped, not that I could think of more than 2 movies that would qualify for a nomination. He said, “Because we did add some awards and we had to lose something to get out of the show before midnight.”

And last year I asked the perennial question: Just who decides all this stuff anyway? And Grabbys co-founder Stacy Bridges responded, “We have 6 judges/writers that send their nominations to Mark [Nagel] who compiles the list and then sends the nominees back to the judges to vote on the winner. There are also 2 porn fans that aren’t writers who cast their votes.”

Mark said this year, of the nominating committee, “Industry people and a couple fans… plus we do look at blogs like The Sword for ideas.”

So there you have it. Sebastian Kross, Bennett Anthony, Luke Adams… you can thank me in Chicago.\

Grabby Awards tickets go on sale April 8.

  1. Damn, is bareback that fucking serious to you? Can you not get off if there is a condom involved? Are you distracted that much by a thin piece of latex? If your answer to any or all of these questions is yes, then YOU have the problem, not the grabby’s.
As I have said many times, if the “actors” involved are any good, the sex will be hot condom or not. If the only thing that makes them popular is lack of a condom, then they’re not worth shit anyway.

    1. I remember a time when they nominated neither. You may be better at answering this question as I only skimmed through that ridiculous list of nominations, but are the nominated barebacking performers also working at condom studios?

    2. Oops forgot to add that’s probably the only reason why they even bothered to put those in nominations. Rocco Steele does both, barebacking more than condom porn though.

      1. It’s a ridiculous award show with ridiculous reason for why they don’t nominate these studios that’s running rings around them monetary wise!
Ryan Rose – had multiple BB scene with Sean Cody ( actually his best work as he should only bottom lol)
Rocco Steele (Has and still fucking many BB)
Armond Rizzo ( The king of BB bottoming)
Just to name a few :-)

  2. I also got a couple of questions for Mr. Nagel:

    1. Can you make a decent living out of organizing the Grabbys?
    2. Do you think the Grabbys have any relevance to the preferences of the present day gay porn consumer?
    3. How much do I have to pay you to get a nomination?
    4. How do I become one of the two (!) gay porn fans to vote on the winners? (p.s. I don’t do sexual favors in order to get a job)

    1. No you can not make a living organizing the grabbys, actually we have donated over $250,000 to HIV related charities because of the show and parties that happen this weekend. No one have ever bought a nomination. We will never tell who the judges are because we don’t want them to be bought. Thank you for your interest and remember Grabby tickets go on sale April 8.

      1. Thanks for your reply. There is one question that you did not answer and that is “Do you think the Grabbys have any relevance to the preferences of the present day gay porn consumer?”. You no doubt have read the comments on the different gay porn blogs and many people wondered why no bb studios/scenes were nominated. What is your stance on bb gay porn and is there a possibility that bb studios will get a nomination in the future? What is the value of a Grabby nomination/award when two of the most succesful gay porn studios (Sean Cody and BelAmi) are left out?

        1. We do understand what’s going on in the industry, we have talked about it. But as someone who has been HIV positive for the last 19 years its not something I would wish on my worst enemy. Lets just say it will be reviewed every year and you just don’t know but at this time for 2015 Grabbys its not happening.
