HN-MonogamyGeneTH.jpg A new study by Swedish researchers suggests that there may be a genetic marker for monogamous tendencies in men, and its name is RS3 334. Long story short, the gene affects receptors for a hormone called vasopressin which is directly linked to commitment phobia, and its converse, cuddle mania. The study concentrated solely on heterosexual men who had spent five years or more in a monogamous relationship, and the theories scientists are forming have to do with findings involving prairie voles. [Ed. Note: we just learned what a vole was.]
But take heed, marriage-happy homos!  For those dudes with too many copies of the RS3 334 gene, you're probably doomed to have many marital crises, or destined to lead happy and fulfilling single lives with trails of tears in your wake.

Of course, multiple copies of the gene also seem to relate to trust issues and autism, so perhaps your problems are deeper than just promiscuity. But anyhow. The brain is a many splendoured and misunderstood organ. There may be hope for the marrieds after all.

That's funny. Monogamy in men wasn't something I thought was a tendency.
