St. Petersburg, Russia May 3, 2008
In response to Moscow's mayor banning gay protests from the nation's May Day celebrations this year (in response to violence that broke out during last year's event), student activists will be handing out leaflets with their mouths taped shut in order to raise awareness of discrimination and violence against gays in Russia. This is not to be confused with the American Day of Silence (pictured), which is specifically geared to awareness of gay bullying in schools.
