 A porn star and a porn blogger have recently bemoaned gay-for-pay porn as evidence of gay self-loathing. But we see gay-for-pay porn as evidence of why we just furtively closed a browser window and asked our cubicle neighbor for a wet-wipe.
The debate started when Fleshbot complained about a Falcon Str8 Men video in which straight-identified Pat Bateman fucks a dude while studying a pussy mag. Tre Xavier seconded Felchbot's grievance in a blog post accusing gay-for-pay porn fans of self-loathing.
We agree that the poorly-named Pat Bateman was annoying in flouting his pussy mag. We also agree that it's pathetic when porn studios underestimate their audience and bill real-life gay cum-sluts as straight. We also agree that we hate ourselves.
But the bottom line is that while sex is complicated, porn is simple. Jerking off to porn should be about exploring the crusty, chafed heads of our penis, and not about exploring the inner depths of identity politics and our delicate-flower psyches.
 Also, porn is about the performance, not identity. And the hard fact is that since the early days of Jeff Stryker and Ryan Idol, some of porn's best performers have identified as straight. Peter North, AVN hall-of-famer and avowed hetero, kicked off his career by bottoming (as Matt Ramsey) for horse-hung Rick Donovan in The Bigger The Better. Their scene (pictured, right) is widely considered to be among the best gay fucks ever filmed.
For a contemporary example, Randy Blue points to Reese Rideout, a straight-identified star who, frankly, delivers the company's hottest scenes. And Dink Flamingo, the force behind Active Duty, which mostly features straight military hunks, has stated that his straight models tend to give better, more passionate performances than his gay models.
That makes sense. Ugly guys are often better lays than hot guys because they need to make up for their lack of looks. Likewise, gays-for-pay may be more engaging performers than gays because of the extra acting effort required to make up for their lack of desire.
In conclusion, huffy political opposition to gays-for-pay strikes us as so lesbian-for-real.
