After three and a half hours of deliberations, a jury of eight men and four women found Harlow Cuadra guilty of 1st degree murder for the 2007 stabbing death of porn producer Bryan Kocis.
In addition to 1st degree murder, Harlow Cuadra was found guilty on each of the 11 other charges, including theft, robbery, arson and abuse of a corpse. Because it's a capital murder case, the jury will now decide whether to sentence Cuadra to life in prison or death.
Dressed in a pink dress shirt and grey suit, Harlow stared forward as the verdict was read. Bryan Kocis' family hugged. The trial lasted 12 days and 90 witnesses testified.
The judge spent an hour and a half this morning reading the full list of criminal charges against Harlow, as well as the descriptions of each crime. The judge said afterwards that "these are the longest instructions I've ever heard given to a jury."
After the jurors convened to reach a verdict, they twice returned to the courtroom to ask the judge whether they could convict Harlow Cuadra of 1st degree murder even if they weren't sure whether he was the one to slit Kocis' throat. The judge told them that yes, even as an accomplice the murder charge would still stand. The extent to which jurors believe Harlow was an accomplice or the main actor in the murder will largely determine whether or not he receives the death penalty.
