Pink Pistols Fire at Supreme Court
Pink Pistols Fire at Supreme Court

Personally, we're lovers not fighters. That being said, we were thrilled to learn of an organization devoted to protecting Second Amendment rights and encouraging gays to arm themselves in self-defense. The Pink Pistols recently filed a brief in a case before the Supreme Court challenging a 32-year-old ban on handguns in the District of Columbia. Citing that "more anti-gay crimes occur in the home than anywhere else," the Pink Pistols joined 68 other organizations filing briefs in the case, most of which opposed the ban.
... The case was brought by a 65-year-old security guard who sued the district for the right to keep a handgun in his home, and the justices are expected to rule on the case before their current term is up in June.

The Pink Pistols have 43 chapters across the country devoted to instructing the LGBT (and the polyamoramous/BDSM) community in the safe handling and discharging of firearms through meetings and group outings to shooting ranges. The photo gallery and posters on the group's website confirm our suspicions that this is a lesbian-dominated concern, the dykes being way more prone to violence than the gays (what, me stereotype?). But they make a good point when discussing the 2006 bashing of drag star Kevin Aviance on their blog, Bustin Caps: If that tranny had had a gun in her purse, t'aint no one would have fucked with her.

We love the idea of a gay gun group because
a) guns are empowering, and because arming oneself seems like a perfectly logical short-term solution to a societal threat that is not likely to go away with a few diversity workshops and "Preach Tolerance" posters;
b) it gives whole new meaning to the term "bear hunting"
c) it brings up visions of gaysploitation-style snuff films and Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!  Where do we sign up?

Speaking of B-movies, last year the group was caught in the dubious spotlight of Fox The O'Reilly Factor when legal correspondent Rod Wheeler conflated The Pink Pistols with (probably fictional) stories he was telling of "pink-pistol-packing lesbian street gangs" who were committing crimes across America.  If only this were true...* (And if only that YouTube footage of the alleged girl gang with pink-painted 9mm glocks were still viewable!)

Great, "pistol-packing lesbian street gangs", one more thing to keep me up at night. The major problem with this is that everytime someone is accidently caught in the crossfire someone will blurt out "The Gays can't even shoot straight". The crowd will erupt into laughter, quickly forgetting the injured left dying on the pavement. Additionally, do we really want the next Republican motto to be, "Guns don't kill people, Gay people kill people".
