In a scene worthy of a B-side Dolly Parton song, a 21-year-old gay man who had admitted to previously sleeping with a woman woke to a "searing pain and disturbing wetness," then watched as his male lover flushed his severed penis down the toilet. The offending organ has not been recovered, and in typical male fashion we're having trouble recovering from even the idea of this.
Feliciano had met the victim, Mervik Caban, at the mall in Manila where
they both worked before engaging in a year-long romance Feliciano and Caban had fought about Caban's alledged
romance with a woman. Caban then drank several beers and passed out.
The Phillipine-based Journal Online took particular misogynistic delight in reporting the story,
referring to them in the homosexual singular, each as "a gay" and
noting that the penis-less Caban looked like "a woman who had just
given birth." Oh-kay. Caban attempted suicide soon after, but was
stopped. And apparently this is some kind of custom for Pacific Islanders because we just found this story about a Malaysian wife doing the same thing. Anyway, we were going to tie in something here about the male genital
mutilation marchers at Pride, but two paragraphs in we sort of regret
covering this at all.
