Michael Lucas Talks About Brainwashed Russians, His Divorce, and the New Boyfriend He Met on Tinder

As you can see from just a quick scan of Sword headlines over the years, Michael Lucas has always been an outspoken and polarizing figure in the adult entertainment world. His 16-year-old company Lucas Entertainment remains a major player in the gay porn universe, lately releasing about three new scenes a week, and the Sword sat down with him recently to talk about his business, and about his recent forays into documentary film.

Lucas was in San Francisco the other week for a presentation of his most recent documentary about anti-gay laws and vigilante abuses of gay men in his home country of Russia, which screened at the San Francisco GLBT film festival, Frameline.

I spoke to him at his hotel the day after the screening.

J.W. W-H: Tell me about this Russia documentary, how you started working on it, etc.
Michael Lucas: Well you know I’ve produced two documentaries, the first was Undressing Israel: Gay Men in the Promised Land, and now this one about Russia, Campaign of Hate: Russia and Gay Propaganda. Both are passions of mine, Israel because I consider it my second home and Russia because I had a very difficult time living there as a Jewish gay man. So one was my love letter to Israel, and one was my [desire] to expose Russia for what it is.

Your hate letter, so to speak.
It’s kind of my hate letter, yes, but it’s a very balanced one. In fact many people who have seen it, are surprised at how balanced it is. I tried to show how divided the gay community is there. You have one group saying that this whole [recent civil rights crisis] has given them better visibility and the other saying no, that’s its horrible and they want to leave. Lots of people have already left. I’ll tell you something that wasn’t in my film: I helped four Russian guys leave and come to America. They are all friends, two of them are a couple, and all 4 are HIV-positive. Before coming to the US, they lived in Moscow, but were originally from other cities, smaller cities. When were diagnosed with HIV, they went to the hospital to get treatment. They were denied treatment and treated so horribly. People were afraid to touch them, just like it was in 80s here in the states. They were verbally abused and told that they had to go back to their hometowns to get treatment. And when you come from a tiny little city, they’ve probably never had [HIV cases] to treat. So it was a horrible cycle of being discriminated against and not being able to get the treatment they needed. Basically their options consisted of them waiting around, developing full blown AIDS and risking the chance of death. So I brought them here and I sent them to GMHC, a superb organization. And they were crying. They couldn’t believe that they had come here, and they’d never worked a day in this country, and just because they had HIV and had come from Russia, GMHC got them a translator, got them doctors, got them all on medication, helped to get them insurance, all for free. They even helped them find an apartment and invited them to dinner. And they just said, “God bless America.” And it’s true. This is a wonderful country. It’s a country of patriots, not nationalists. Unlike, Russia which is full nationalists, people who hate everything that’s different. These guys are examples of people who left and now will be American patriots. They will work for this society, and they will contribute, out of gratitude for America being so incredibly nice to them and for treating them as human beings. That’s something that in Russia would have never happened.

What were you saying about how there are some Russians who think this crackdown is giving them more visibility? They don’t fear getting arrested, or harassed?
It’s interesting really. I compare it to the Jews in Germany in the 1930s. There was a group of Jews who knew the history and knew that this was the beginning of the end. But there was a big group who stayed, who thought it would get better, and many of them were exterminated. I think this group of gays in Russia has hope that this will get better and that it can be used as an opportunity, but it’s bad and they need to see the reality of the situation. This is of course only my opinion. I was careful not to give my opinion in the documentary. This was not supposed to be about me.

When was this documentary shot?
This was over a year ago, right before the new discrimination laws were signed. But the regime had promised this, and I knew, all Russians knew, when they promise something, it happens. I had lived there, so I went right away to start filming. I gladly invested $100,000 of my own money, knowing that documentaries don’t make money, to tell this story because it was important. So, this was charity that I did for Russia. But your original question was why did some of Russians think that there would be greater visibility, and they feel like all this conversation means that more people are acknowledging them and discussing homosexuality. But not all PR is good PR, just like in Nazi Germany. Russians are being brainwashed, and Russians are not free-thinkers. They are very easily brainwashed. So they are being convinced that gays are dangerous, dangerous to families, that they convert people, and that they spread HIV/AIDS. The Kremlin didn’t become homophobic overnight. But what happened was that the platz, the Russian street, got the message that they needed to protect their children. And these are young people, teenagers and twentysomethings who don’t gave jobs. So what they do is they start to lure gay people to their apartments using Grindr and other services and film it, it’s really awful.

Yes, I’ve seen the videos.
Yes, it’s horrible. Hundreds of them. And they call it a “lesson.” They beat them up, and they’re spraying urine in their face, and then they film them with dildos to humiliate them. And no one is doing anything about it. Russian LGBT organizations are a joke, 20 people show up with flags. The same 20 people show up every time. And you know it’s terrible, especially if you live in one of the smaller places. We don’t know how many people were killed, instead of being filmed. We only know about the ones who were filmed. Anyway, they call themselves, this organization or whatever it is, Occupy Pedofil-aye [Editor’s Note: Those words are supposed to rhyme, in Russian.] It’s a message to the West. They’re trying to turn Russian public opinion against us, saying, basically, “Gay people are agents of the West.”

So let’s talk about the porn world. What’s your perspective on it now? You used to do these grand, lavish movies with high production values and big budgets. And pretty much no one does these anymore.
Well, it was a great time to do them, to establish the brand, to get people writing about them. We’ll still produce some movies like that. But look, at this point we’re producing three scenes a week, one of which is exclusive to our members, and it’s a lot of work. That’s a lot of content to produce and push out each week.

In order to stay competitive, you mean.
There are not many companies that are doing as many. I can only think of one off the top of my head.

Men.com is doing is three a week, at least.
Yes, they are one of the few. Three scenes a week is a lot. Sometimes we are releasing four scenes a week. For a few months we’ve been doing three main scenes and one fetish scene. For the summer we’re doing just two main scenes and one fetish scene. Its a fight to get paying customers. Before they find an effective way to fight piracy, it will be tough to protect and keep content exclusive. A lot of companies have closed or sold to other companies. I get a lot of people who are interested in buying Lucas Entertainment, but I’m not interested in selling right now. The company is continuing to grow and has been since we opened in 1998. But particularly we’ve seen incredible growth the past two years, so I don’t see the point in selling it. I like this time we’re in. It’s just incredibly interesting, challenging and I like it.

Do you find that because you have to produce so much content it’s less exciting to you, or less interesting, because there’s so much more of it?
No. I do not direct. I have not directed in many years. I’m very rarely on the set. I view everything, and I give my notes both before and after production. I also do the pairing and approve all the models. [Before the shoots] I give my suggestions about what I’d like to see. My guys know very well what it is I want. I’ve changed videographers five times since 1998, and all of them have known what I want. When you have a good staff, you don’t really have to be there. I focus my time on running the corporate offices.

Do you think that recruiting is easier now than it used to be? This is something that Chi Chi LaRue brought up recently. She said there’s just so many guys, straight and gay and whatever, who are beautiful and who want to do porn.
Yes, my god. We receive up to 50 applications a day. Of course most of them do not match the standards of our models. But back in 1998 we were lucky to get 3 applications a week, of course not as many people knew who we were.

Do you prefer to cast gay models?
Of course we always prefer to cast gay models, and I can count on my fingers how many models I’ve worked with who are straight or bisexual. We have exceptions, like Rod Daily, who I believe is truly bisexual. He just truly loved getting fucked by guys. But we will not take a straight guy who’s not really interested [in having sex with other guys]. It just doest work and you can tell on camera. I tried it recently in Hungary, without knowing what I was signing up for, and the content was so bad. Four scenes that should have been better and just weren’t. [Referring to Toby Dutch: Barebacking in Budapest.] I will not do that again. It was also gang-bang. I don’t like gang-bangs. I like orgies. Most of what we do now is three-ways, four-ways, and orgies.

Because it sells better.
Yes, it sells really well. It is a very expensive thing to do, but you know. We just produced a movie that is only threeways. Only double-penetrations. That’s how we have to compete for customers today. Here’s your threeway, and here’s a double penetration.

And you’re still producing fetish content?
Yes, about once scene every two or three weeks. Sometimes we’ll have guys in a shoot who are interested in a fetish and we’ll ask them to do it and maybe we’ll take that scene and release it separately. Because not everybody wants to watch that, it’s a special audience.

You produced one of my favorite scenes of all time, it was either won a GayVN Award for Best Duo or it was nominated. This was Blu Kennedy and a guy named Danny B. in Encounters 1
Well I’m glad you liked it. But as for awards, I really don’t care. After all the many awards that I won, or that the company won didn’t really matter. The truth is, when you win a GayVN award, it doesn’t do anything for sales. You don’t get a single extra DVD sale from one of those awards. Not one extra click from these shows. Because the shows are not being attended by anyone but porn stars and industry people and a few people who happen to be in the area. They say, “Oh it’s the Oscars of porn,” but who really cares? The Oscars are transmitted to millions of people all over the world. That translates into sales. These silly does not translate. That’s why my guys in the office don’t go to these things anymore. We do IML, and anyone who goes to IML are welcome to go [to the Grabby Awards] but I’m not paying for it. It’s not interesting to me.

So, if you could do anything besides being a pornographer, what would you be doing?
Oh, I don’t really know. Its one reason I am not ready to sell the company. I just don’t know what I’d do. I never in my life had to work for anyone. At the age of 21 in Russia I had a travel agency, and I opened this company in 1998. I only worked briefly [as a model] before that. But I can’t imagine being an employee or reporting to anyone. I own the company, it’s 100% mine. I never took a loan. I think I will always do my work for the gay community, maybe I would do that full time later on in life. You will have to wait and see.

Do you have any goals for the next few years?
In business, its to continue to produce hot porn. That’s the goal. I’ve changed a bunch of people [on my staff] in the past year, and now I probably have the best team I’ve ever had. I love coming to the office. I’m surrounded by great professionals. Most of them have never worked in porn before, and they have great ideas. I think its going to be a great future for us.

And personally, a lot of things have changed in my life. I got divorced. You know, gay marriage… people don’t talk about gay divorce. But it happened. And now I have a new boyfriend. He’s an amazing, amazing guy. Incredibly wise, intelligent, had great experiences, very sweet and warm and educated. He’s ten years younger than I am, and has a executive role in a large New York Advertising Agency. We are really happy together.

Where did you meet him?
Funny enough, I met him on a dating app. Called Tinder. I liked his profile and we went to lunch. It was interesting because I remember the first thing he told me was “You know, I’m HIV-positive.” And I said, “Okay, thank you. But why is that the first thing you are telling me?” And he said, “Well, I just want you to know. I don’t want to waste your time or my time.” It was the first time I realized its apparently a deal breaker for many people. To me that is unbelievable. Its 2014, people, gay men especially need to learn the basics. That is my whole position on Truvada. If someone is on HIV medication, and his viral load is undetectable, the chances of infection or so low. And with Truvada, used as Prep, its virtually impossible to get infected. To me, it has the chance to revolutionize the way we prevent HIV.

But yes, we met on Tinder and have been together every since. I’m so very happy, which is great. We never fight. Of course, we have very different opinions about things, but it’s always very respectful conversation. All my boyfriends have had different opinions about politics, and me and him don’t see eye-to-eye about a lot of things but we have very respectful and interesting conversations about it. It’s like intellectual ping-pong. Truthfully, I was so very unhappy for a long time. When I was getting divorced it was very difficult. My husband met someone who was much younger and I was heartbroken. But it gave me the opportunity to reevaluate my life. I realized, there is nothing I can do about it and I have to move on. The next day, I hit the gym, I threw myself into my job and my life started to get better. My ex came back two weeks later, wanting to be back with me, but I had already moved on and continue to realize it was good that it happened, because I really wasn’t happy. Sometimes it’s good to change your life, you know. These changes have been great and I’m looking forward to what the future has in store.

  1. “My ex came back two weeks later, wanting to be back with me” Hahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahah, You win the Internet

  2. I agree with all the positive statements. Lots to be said. He is honest about Truvada and yes, as times change, ideas change. Barebacking is more logical now with Prep. He’s ahead of the curve. The curve is coming. I like the diversity of his models and his service to the community. He is very approachable too. His site is the only one that I know of where users can interact with each other and post comments.

No one applauds him for trying to use only gay models, not gay for pay. It is one of the reasons I signed up for his website. Mendotcom is very homophobic, casting mostly gay4pay models. No one knows owns the site and I don’t see them reaching out to the community. Randy Blue also uses many G4$ pay models and worships their straightness as if it is more idealistic. There is a lot of homophobia embedded in the G4$ concept and it takes money out of the community. He understands what community is. Many in the industry now put dollar before community and sell out to out to straight guys because it sells to closeted gay men and young gay guys who have no perspective on the history of gay identity.

The people who “hate” him should look at their own lives and see what button he pushes. I am glad he’s there and proud to have him as an icon in the community.

  3. Good on him for speaking out against Russia’s homophobic laws. Maybe he’ll spend less time advocating apartheid in Israel.

    1. On the other hand you could learn about the whole situation and not just what you want to believe is going on in Israel.

  4. The first gay porn company I ever watched and purchased content from was Lucas Entertainment. The scenes were well shot (by Mr. Pam) and the models/stars seemed to be enjoying themselves. What I also like about LE, is that there are/is different ethnic makeups of the models in his movies/scenes. They are black models, white models, and hispanic models who look they represent differing Latin American nations and not just Spain (mind you Spain is in Europe not LA). His models do not look interchangeable and seem as if they came off the same plane from Idaho.

Other porn sites who claim to be so progressive and pushing the envelope and are creating a true representation of gay life/love/porn/experiences, have the exact copies for models (yes, I’m talking to you at Cockyboys). It’s as if there is an assembly line in the back room. Same hair, skin color, tats, build, etc. They will throw in one model of color (the very sad D. Washington) and brag about their diversity and how two of the three owners are non white. It matters not since it’s the same look alllllllll the time, White, whtie and more white.

So ML may be whatever everyone thinks him to be but at least his company/videos represent all members of the gay community. Not just the White Only members.

  5. Matt , its just called work for hire. Adult companies just like other companies hire people to work for them. And yes they pay money what is so surprising about it?

  6. Great article, I was reading the comments. I don’t understand The haters ? I started following Michael Lucas at the beginning based on his looks and then purchased Lucas films for years because of the content. The porn was exciting, something new, fresh. Nothing cookie cutter about it. Michael Lucas is honest smart, not afraid to speak his mind. Besides his handsome looks his brain is really the hottest thing about him. A confident self-assured good looking man who just happens to run his own successful company. Who wouldn’t admire that ? The haters must just be jealous of a guy that has it all. Carry on Michael Lucas #fanforlife

    1. Thank you Bradley. I been seeing lot of judgmental comments and down right personal insults. Disagree with a view, statement or action – and have an opinion – but the lack of civility in our society is killing reasoned debate. Discourse needs to go up a level. Calling someone “duckface” or saying wears too much make up is immature and hateful. This is behavior of bullies, not grown adults debating expressed views in an interview. I appreciate you pointing out the tone of some comments.

And as for other theme I keep seeing, about exploitation and moral judgment on adult entertainment- 1) The interview is on Nakedsword.com which is an adult entertainment site 2) Models apply to do porn because they want to- no one is out hunting them down and forcing them (don’t have to, way more who apply to all production labels then got jobs for) and 3) People can simply choose NOT to watch nor buy porn- if was no demand, there would be no industry.

    2. You might want to do a little bit more research……if he truly started his own company, got venture capital supporters, etc. I’d agree with you. But what I’ve read in many different sources is the contrary – he leverage his escort business, ultimately married that man, and now as of late they are divorced. So not the pure/clean/clear success story you seem to believe.

If someone knows otherwise, please post the facts, even the Blogger!!!

      1. Even more Impressive! he started the company with his own money. So he does not have to report to any one.

        1. Reread what I wrote – it was NOT his money, it was his former wealthy client that set him up. Not like he had an aggressive and impressive business plan that a venture capitalist funded. So I like many others want a more balanced and HONEST assessment of his success…..and I don’t dispute for a moment that LEntertainment for years had some of the best porn in the business and loved that NYC edgey feeling to it vs. the cookie cutter stuff out of California. For that he DOES deserve a lot of credit from all of us.

And let’s stop with the nasty personal attacks – “Duckface”? Rise above it and post constructive comments/observations folks.

And for the guy that posted why so many new and first time posters? I sense it goes back to my earlier post/comment about how divisive he can be…not a lot of gray with guy’s opinions of ML – hate ’em or love ’em!!!

          1. actually Lucas met his ex bf in 2001. he started the company in 1998. So maybe you should check your facts first mr big mouth.

          2. Jon – thanks for the snotty reply. Maybe YOU should check your facts as he married his bf of 8 years in 2008, hence they became boyfriend/boyfriend in 2000. From an interview with Michael himself…..

“Lucas lives in the multilevel apartment with his boyfriend of five years, Richard Winger, a 50-year-old Austrian international investor; their enormous Great Pyrénées dog, Bianca; and a long-haired Peruvian guinea pig, a local delicacy that Lucas smuggled back from a recent vacation in his carry-on. He gives a tour while nibbling on fresh dates from a silver chalice. In the kitchen, he motions to a Richard Avedon photograph of a nude Nureyev, his penis almost touching his knee. “A lot of people think I look like him.”

So tell me his older now ex-husband, an international investor that wasn’t the one that got him the capital he needed.

            Where are your facts?!!!

          3. The timeline of events in Michael’s life are well documented. Lucas Entertainment (just search web, Wikis, Wikipedia and NYC chamber of commerce will give you company founding date) was established in 1998. The company became formally incorporated in 2001. He met Richard Winger in 2000. They married in October 2008. See copy of announcement here.http://pornstarbabylon.wordpress.com/2008/10/21/michael-lucas-and-partner-richard-winger-getting-married-october-30/

Michael Lucas isn’t concealing anything here. So what is issue? Oh he used escort and adult performer money to get company started? or he got investment from his previous boyfriend to build company? In either case, so what?

What is point? To say how how got to where or what created in a company shouldn’t be respected? Newsflash all businesses to get started , get capital in variety of ways and friends, family, spouses, lovers etc often help. And if because any of the money came from adult professional services – uh, it is an adult entertainment business, so why is that a bad thing?

Sorry I just do not understand being hung up on how company got started. Not really the point of the article.

          4. You are making no sense brother…. he started his company in 2008. He met his ex in 2000. So that is two years later. So he obviously had the money two years before they met.Can you follow? This is really simple.

          5. As someone who has started and kept businesses going with friends/lovers money and bank money, I can tell you it’s MUCH harder to work with money from people you know than from an institution. I think the underlying reason so many people have ragged on Michael has nothing to do with where he got the money.. more to do with the jealousy/envy of his natural endowment, business savvy and values. Let’s face it, many of us have a velvet rage brewing right below the surface and it doesn’t take much to cause an ugly eruption. Michael Lucas changed the adult entertainment business, made many Gay Jews question their knee-jerk reaction to pacifism, and did so looking so very fine! Michael, …Congratulations on your relationship with Tyler Helms!

  7. An interview with him, the topic of HIV comes up & no discussion of how Lucas transformed into a bareback studio. Is Lucas providing health insurance to models now so they can get Truvada? 50 applications of day for porn is a sad Commentary ;sorry. For most young guys this is not the best Long term choice. Lucas will exploit the 20 year old for $… Let’s see where they’re at in 10

  8. Dutch Courage What help or advocacy for the gay community you’ve done? I wanna put the hottest pepper in your mouth. Shame on you for hating ML.

  9. Dutch, you are not very intelligent:) I don’t think that he cares about “bed press”. He is in the entertainment business, all press is a good press. I am a big fan and I read about 35 great articles about him in the past 4 months. He is on my Google Alert. Not sure what you are even talking about. And you should not downplay the fact that someone is spreading awarness about Russian homophobia. its a very useful thing to do. Silence is a death sentence, Shame on you.

  10. Am I the only one noticing that there are a lot of first-time posters on this article? Not surprising at all since it’s a trend that has happened in the past.

As far as Michael Lucas aka duckface goes, it is somewhat noble for him to do a documentary on a country who is suppressing gay rights, but rather ironic and hypocritical doing that all while vocally supporting Mitt Romney, a firm supporter of banning same-sex marriage, as president for 2012 and donating to the Republican party, the party who supports candidates such as Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, Christine O’Donnell, Michelle Bachmann, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and the list goes on and on and on. All these candidates very much oppose same-sex marriage, and Michelle Bachmann even ran a clinic in sexual reparative therapy that was sucking on the government’s tit and getting government subsidies for it as well.

  11. Michael, that was a great interview…personal and heartwarming. Thank you for all you do. You truly embody Tikun Olam, …fixing the world in your own terms.

  12. What do you do when you get very bad press for the last half year? Indeed, you give an “interview” that shows you are “vulnerable” and “caring” so people believe that you are not a scumbag or hypocrite. One of the oldest tricks in the PR book. I applaude the fact that he made that documentary about the position of gays in Russia. But people who think that it will have any impact in Russia forget that Russia is not a real democracy and hasn’t a democratic tradition.

I noticed that Lucas mentions a couple of times that his company is not for sale. Is this a sneaky way of saying that it is for sale?

    1. “Is this a sneaky way of saying that it is for sale?”

For a higher price than it’s worth I am sure.

  13. I kind of wished his extortion plot against those torrent users was addressed. It was so entertaining to watch him in cahoots with that anime lawyer. I’m curious to know how it ended. Or is that something he’d prefer swept under the rug since it most likely was a failure. I really want to know.

  14. Michael is a very interesting person and honored to call him friend. I was in hay day of my rising model career in NYC when he began his hard work to build Lucas Entertainment. It was different time then. I was one of the first in androgynous males breaking stereotypical male images in the mainstream and in adult work. Michael was pioneer in taking gay pornographer into a art form on film, he brought aesthetics and quality to the industry- and set a standard. As I try in my own work, he showed during a very dark period in LGBTQI times of AIDS and rising tide of gay rights issues, that sex , in all its forms, should be a beautiful thing. We cannot underestimate that very real contribution to the culture. Self-respect begins where self-loathing ends. I am very glad he is continuing his work. I cultivated an amateur web porn star career as the “movies” faded as I wanted to bring realness and naturalness to viewers- which then exploded on the Net. Michael now focusing with Men.com to bring quality and the Lucas Standard to the web scenes genre is exactly where the growth in adult entertainment is now. People want their gay porn and the “video clips”, not long features on DVDs, but they do want quality. So once again, he is blazing the trail. And, the fact he is using his media talents to give exposure to human rights and political issues today has been no surprise to me. He always has had a deeper, very intellectual side to him. I agree with him, we need to focus also on gay divorce and other social issues that are ‘new’ for our community and keep evolving our expression to keep all forms of entertainment, adult included, relevant and artful. Thrilled he has a new love in his life as Michael, as observe in all his public actions, is a loyal , dedicated and supportive person. People may disagree with some of his views but that is because he is genuine. Intellectually honest. I pray we see more people like Michael Lucas emerge in the industry.

    1. Men.com still uses condoms in all its scenes. Can’t say that for Lucas Entertainment. If Michael Lucas is intellectually honest he should’t film bareback scenes. A lot of people felt betrayed by him because of the bb move.

      1. Well bareback does happens in real life and if both sexual partners are recently tested and know their history, and consent then is no different than a man and woman doing the same. Open to debate on whether this should be depicted in films but all performers are tested and screened for films. As for a lot of people feeling betrayed because of bareback scenes, I question that feeling and who is- “lot of people”. I would hope consenting adults are more intelligent than to conclude random bareback sex is OKAY after BB sex in a very controlled safe environment- which is what a professional adult film production is. I have made several films over the years for different companies as well as my own label, performers tested and safe sex practices followed- and have never had any STD. If Michael was out publicly saying “don’t ever need a condom” , don’t know your status, nor your partner- then I would be alarmed.

        1. Michael Lucas in the past was always adamant about the use of condoms in gay porn. He said he would never film a bb scene. Was very angry when Brent Corrigan, who had done some bb scenes, presented a gay porn award show. Look where we are now…

          1. Actually Dutch Courage, he never blamed Brent Corigan for not using the condoms. He was speaking against Brent performing wile underaged. He was mad about him forging his ID and pretending that he is 18 wile he was only 16. You should get your facts straight.

  15. I know Michael Lucas, and here is what I have to say: He is likely the most principled person I know. He is outspoken and advocates for what he believes in. I’m proud to call him my friend. One does not have to always agree on everything to be friends and have respect, but in most cases, I happen to actually agree with him.

Most of the negative comments on here are likely from those with envy.

    1. Lucas was principled about condoms, now he’s principled about Truvada. I don’t envy Mr. Lucas (too much make up).

      1. Michael has never said don’t use condoms. He has spoken out on Truvada yes, but has been open about his views. I believe in condoms still as primary as Truvada is still “new” and doesn’t necessarily protect against other potential STDs besides HIV. However, I am open to the debate and evolving best safe sex practices. Still- is no subsitute for knowing your partner and both being tested.

        1. SUCH BULLSHIT!!!! You are clearly so full of it if you believe that. Duckface has ALWAYS pushed a strong agenda for safe and condom-only porn until the last couple of years. He was extremely vocal about it, and tried to lead a boycott to some award shows that would either award or nominate actors and studios that did anything barebacking. The same goes with Chi Chi LaRue.

  16. Michael is a wonderful man and all he says in this interview is an absolute truth – i have known him since elementary school which makes it just about 20 years…

  17. Interesting interview. I don’t always agree with everything he says but a lot of it I do get behind. I wonder about the 2 weeks thing. I mean, wow, to fall out of love in 2 weeks. How strong was the love to begin with? I wasn’t in the situation so who knows what went on but that seems a little ridiculous.

  18. One of the most believable gay guy in gay porn. I love him from the start. He’s handsome and successful he’s charity program for his gay country men was amazing, a gay guy with heart. Sad that he’s ex bf has cheated on him (WHY WE NEED TO BE A CHEATER?). I am planning to subscribe at Lucas Entertainment after my RB subs expired. Best interview by Mr. Waxne- Herman.
*PLEASE do some interview with anything about ERIC VIDEOS I like that studio.

  19. Michael is a brave man. I admire him for never apologizing for believing what he believes and putting the pressure on his native country to change. It’s sure time they do.

  20. Hurge LE fan. True He is a character but I don’t take all so seriously and besides it makes for a fun read.

  21. ive met him a few times mostly through a few friends that do porn. ive found him to be very nice, bright, friendly and kind. not at all overbearing or rude, as ive read that some say about him. i dont agree with his hiv/truvada thing though. he just seems WAY too easy about this stuff for me. its too dangerous to take any chance with just taking this pill? pills – no matter what they might be for – dont work for 100% of the people 100% of the time. why not use a condom too, and like his bf did be upfront 100% of the time. im on tenofovir for hep b now and even though i was told this is very effective as a prep i would NEVER take that chance ..too risky

  22. I bet all of you haters would jump at a chance to go to one of his parties or hang out with him. No porn guy makes real documentaries that speak out like Michael does. The man does more amazing things than most people and he’s hot and funny. Enough said.

    1. You’re wrong. In NYC, most gay men avoid him like the plague. The only men that are interested in ML are those that stick to the dollar bills he drags on the ground as he walks down 8th ave. Not everyone is so desperate to earn a buck.

  23. I know Mr. Lucas can be a controversial figure, and I have certainly found myself in disagreement with him on some of the topics he has been most vocal about, but I really have to admire his commitment to drawing attention to the plight of his homeland and the toxic political climate that is producing the intolerable cruelty directed at the LGBT community. By virtue of his celebrity (and he is one in the gay community), he has a platform and he has chosen to use that platform in service of his people – gay, Jewish, Russian and those living with HIV/AIDS. Very commendable. Bravo, Mr. Lucas!

  24. There’s nobody on earth like Michael Lucas. Love him or hate him you HAVE to respect how unique and outspoken he is. His life sounds like it’s been fascinating and I wonder who’s gonna do the movie?!

  25. @ reallyfelicia — LOL! What the hell are you even talking about? You do not believe that he produced two documentaries? That he got divorced? That he is producing porn films for leaving? That his bf is HIV positive? That he is from Russia? Which part of this interview you do not believe? Now go and sell a bridge in Brooklyn.

        1. That’s easy – HE would star as himself! Haven’t you ever noticed how many times posters of him are in his movies, even if he isn’t in it?!!!!

  26. Some people here are just jealous of someone else’s success. Michael is intelligent and is not shy to voice his opinion. He came to US with nothing and made a great life for himself. Now he is able to help the others. I think that it is simply great.

    1. Interesting but as I understand it he is rather smart and savvy….after all, he started as an escort in NYC, ultimately married one of his wealthy clients and used that man’s wealth to start Lucas Entertainment. Sorry, not someone I have respect for…like Ms. Clinton a rather divisive individual. As you can see from the blog responders most either love him or hate him. Bloggers give him way too much air time and media coverage. Soft side re his divorce my butt…he no doubt moved along quite a while back.

But he does make great porn or at least did – the Fire Island series is legendary!!

  27. You know how they say that “if you ignore someone, they’ll go away?” I thought he went away. Shit.

  28. JohnnyPornLover

    Great interview.
I didn’t know Michael had a vulnerable side.
Though, I don’t always agree with his stance on things.

  29. Wow. 10 years?!
Guess that’s better than the barebacking hypocrite dustin lance black who has a 20+ year gap with the boy he’s dating.
    “You know, I’m HIV-positive.”
If only more guys were as upfront about it as he is.

    1. I think you need to leave Dustin Lance Black and Tom Daly’s relationship alone. If you don’t like that there’s a 20 year difference between them too fucking bad. If they are happy (and so far they seem to be) it’s none of your fucking business and you should concentrate on your own relationship and leave them alone.

    2. What’s wrong with 10 years gap age difference? I myself would rather have a relationship with the older guy even in his 50’s. Love conquers all.

  30. Well that was a really good interview; in fact it was too short because he is outspoken in a good way, a major fan of Israel and he produces the hottest porn on the planet.
