NakedSword Launches NSFW (Which Stands for NakedSword Film Works)

Does everybody remember I Want Your Love?

The 2013 real-sex, fictional film about gay men in San Francisco was the first foray by the production arm of NakedSword into the world of gay indie film that was not, per se, gay porn.

Director Travis Mathews brought together a cast of non-porn actors with non-porn bodies and told a quiet, ensemble story about young love, creative struggles, and sex a full year before Looking tried to do something similar in a similar setting on HBO, only without full-frontal.

This week, NakedSword launches NakedSword Film Works, NSFW for short, which is going to set out to produce more experiments like this, as our culture continues to blur the lines between art and pornography, and as the world of indie film has been getting a lot more comfortable with explicit sex. (Just look at Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac or The Canyons if you need examples.)

The first release will feature one of the performers in I Want Your Love, SF’s own uninhibited gay punk star Brontez Purnell. Brontez first told The Sword about the project, titled 100 Boyfriends, back in 2014, and at the time he said, “It’s essentially a choreo-movie (not dealing in straight narrative but like with pictures, voice over, text, poetry, performance pieces, etc.)”

See the trailer below. The film premieres on February 10.
