Oh No!: Landon Conrad Says He’s (Maybe) Retiring

Xbiz just did an extra-long profile of gay porn great Landon Conrad, who’s been in the industry now since 2009. And in it, in addition to gushing praise for him, his dick, and his acting abilities, Landon hints that he’s considering retiring, though he won’t go quite that far because, he says, “You never know what life is going to hand you, and I don’t want to go back on my word.”

The semi-news comes shortly after another star of his same stature and generation, Tommy Defendi, announced his retirement, though it’s very possible that scenes shot with Tommy in recent months will continue to roll out for a while.

The occasion for the piece appears to be Landon’s win for Gay Performer of the Year at the XBiz Awards, even though those happened in January. (Way to take your time, XBiz!)

Landon talks about growing up Mormon in Utah, becoming close friends with Chi Chi LaRue, how Raging Stallion head Chris Ward made him grow out his beard, and how difficult it is to be in a relationship when he’s a porn star.

Below, a few choice quotes.

“I feel like sometimes in the past I was trying to hit up everywhere I could make some money, and now I’m not as concerned about that. I’m more interested in working with the good studios, and working with who I want to work with. If it’s not a good fit for me now, I’m not gonna do it. A lot of the gay industry has turned into bareback, and I don’t do that.”

Even though it has been off the air for more than 11 years, the HBO show “Sex and the City” still finds a place in Conrad’s regular viewing rotation. But a funny thing has happened with his outlook.

“I watch them all the time and I still laugh. But how I view them all as I’ve gotten older has totally changed. When I used to watch, I totally agreed with Carrie Bradshaw. Now when I watch, I’m like, ‘You are a fucking crazy bitch.’ I still love it, but it’s funny — as I get older my opinion of them has changed.”

“I’ve experienced so much. I really feel like I’ve got as much out of it as possible. I don’t really know what else I would need to accomplish.”

“I’ve lost relationships because of being in the industry, and it’s hard,” Conrad says. “I am single, I’ve been single for over a year now. I’m trying to stay that way because it’s really hard to date someone and be in this industry. I don’t date other porn stars. For someone who’s not in this industry, it’s really hard for them to understand. I’ve had so many guys in the past that I’ve dated, and they want to understand, they think they understand, they say they do, but when it comes down to it, they don’t. And it’s hard on them, and then I feel bad — like I’m disappointing them, or I can’t offer them everything they want.”

And, below, one of Landon’s early scenes in Falcon’s Office Affairs (2011), bottoming on a desk for Brandon Lewis.

Here he is bottoming for Christian Wilde last fall, in a police uniform, for Men.com.

And here, with some scruff, here’s Landon in one of his most recent Raging Stallion scenes, bottoming for Derek Atlas in Cockquest.

  1. just when i thought there was one porn star who guys wouldn’t complain about …. half you bitches who post on here are so jaded, chewed up and bitter. if you don’t like something don’t watch. you are the reason porn sucks now. whenever there are hot guys doing porn all these jealous old bitches post the nastiest/ meanest things… for what? does it make you feel better about your shitty lives? seriously grow the fuck up or get lives.

  2. wow, what a bunch of negativity filled self-haters.i am a HUGE fan of landon conrad, he may not be the most handsome but he’s fuck’n hot, dedicated, stupendous bottom and a great kisser (now that IS rare), hope he stays in the bizz for a long time to come, and i want ANGELO MARCONI back too, what the hell happened to him? Another olympic champion in gay sex

  3. Oh great, I hope his retirement doesn’t mean I’ll be seeing him prancing around weho more often. There’s a collective groan whenever he enters a room.

    1. I used to see Landon Conrad at Fitness SF gym here in San Francisco a few years back but haven’t seen him in a while and wondered if he lived in San Francisco. Anybody know where he’s hangin’ out.

  4. If he feels that way I really think he should leave. He’s a great peformer and all but his personal health (mental, physical and emotional) should comes first. He he does leave I wish him the best of sucess with his ventures outside of porn.

  5. Did anyone read that article ? I fell asleep after the first couple of lines.
Like every other porn performer .. they have big dreams, believe their own bullshit, hyped by their ego, they leave porn , they fail, they come back

He hardly set the porn world alight, just another average guy who turned to porn because his rent was due

    Yawn fucking Yawn

  6. I love Landon Conrad, I’m the very last guy who’d want him to say goodbye. It was love at first sight when I first glimpsed the Falcon set from which the cover of Morning Wood was chosen, and I’ve endeavored not to miss anything new since.

But I can also understand his sounding the idea out loud at this point. He’s put a large volume of work in, and five years in porn, especially since the internet age, feels like a lifetime. If the offers are coming fewer from A-shelf outlets like Falcon, Raging, Hot House, Men and so forth, maybe that’s helping foster the thought for Landon. Better to go out a legend than take jobs from shithouse outfits, with co-stars unworthy of him, and tarnish his memory.

Great guys like Woody Fox and Liam Magnuson jumped out in under two years. The oldest rule of show business – any realm of show business – is always leave them wanting more. If not now, it is good of Landon to prepare us for the eventuality. He’s destined to be cherished a very long time.

  7. Gee, thanks Sword – ou just made me spit my drink all over my iPad! I thought I was reading The Onion when I saw the words “acting abilities” to describe Landon Conrad.
No matter how much muscle is on the screen, the minute he speaks, the illusion is gone.
