Sean Zevran Would Like You To Know Why He Became a Porn Star

On his personal blog, Sean Zevran (whose real name is Josiah Jennings, as he admits openly on the blog) just wrote an essay about why he became a porn star, and it’s fairly smart!

Inspired by this HuffPo piece from last week by Sword co-founder Mike Stabile — whose documentary about Falcon founder Chuck Holmes, Seed Money, is hitting the festival circuit this spring — Sean writes about the pride he takes in doing porn, and in being a “symbol of sexual freedom.”

He explains how his friend Brandon Wilde helped get him in the door with Randy Blue back in 2011, something he also wrote about last year when he launched the blog. And now he’s waxing philosophical (he actually has a philosophy degree) about the role porn plays in the gay rights movement.

The gay rights movement is fundamentally about sexuality. We, the LGBT community, are sexual deviants. There isn’t a more perfect depiction of our sexuality than the very act of gay sex, no greater display of pride than gay pornography. Gay pornographic actors are symbols — gay sex symbols — representing our sexuality in its crudest form. As Stabile said in his Huffington Post piece, “We might scoff at porn theaters now, but looking up at that screen, a closeted man could see promise of gay life that was open and positive, with larger-than-life men who were bold and unashamed in ways he might only aspire to be.”

Going deeper than its hedonistic surface, doing porn actually means something to me. I take pride in doing pornography because it’s gay pornography. I am a gay male in a patriarchal, misogynistic, homophobic, heteronomative society. I grew up in the Bible Belt of the United States. It’s likely few things defy that more than an atheist, biracial male of black and white ethnicity plowing and getting plowed by other males and deep-throating their cock for all the world to see. To use a quote often misattributed to Ayn Rand (whom I detest), “The question isn’t who’s going to let me, it’s who’s going to stop me?”

Now, in case you missed it, here’s Sean winning your freedoms for you by getting fucked by Sebastian Kross in Falcon’s KrossFire.

  1. *imagines the outrage and homophobia accusations that would inevitably be thrown around if John Boehner made a statement about the “important” role gay porn plays in progressing LGBT rights*

This is what happens when porn stars have a platform to verbalize thoughts.

  2. Sean Sevran is a goodlooking guy but in a long time that Ive seen him in porn he has a face that’s we have a term “NAKAKASAWA” dont know in english. Anyway he’s one of the few pornstars who has brain.

  3. i LOVE Sean Zevran (as a bottom mainly and a fairly good kisser) but , but let’s cut the crap out and let porn be what porn is. A fantasy for seks starved people who adore those models they can’t get in real life. Porn has nothing to do with sexual liberation in the direct way not with gayrights.
I love porn but don’t make somehting out of it what it ain’t.
And i love, and RESPECT gaypornstars, wish them well and good health and for that they have to use a condom while doing the fuck job. My life would be the poorer without them.

  4. Just bcoz I know that all gay porn stars are indeed gay and I have never jacked off to a straight man and bcoz i thought that sean was austin does not make me a parade guys. Sheesh I have never even marched in one.

  5. Eyerolllllllllllll. What is up with these super delusional porn stars? These guys really must live in a bubble where people tell them how special and great they are all the time.

  6. Sean Zevran seems to be in the same mind-space as Adam Ramzi (interviewed on this blog). Both rationalise their involvement in gay porn with interesting logic. Adam Ramzi argues that being a gay porn model will help him better treat people in a psychological practice when he leaves the porn industry. That assumes that you must do something to know it well. However, you don’t need to be a psychopath to understand psychopathy and its objective treatment, for example. Sean Zevran argues that there is no greater display of gay pride than gay pornography. Both are really attempting to rationalise and legitimise their hedonistic pursuits as something greater than they really are. They both can be proud that they can make a quid making porn for as long as it lasts for each of them, individually. But that doesn’t help gay people or the broader community accept or understand gay people in its midst. Greater contributions are made by the likes of world-class sportspeople, politicians, scientists, writers, and the like who are gay and getting on with life and contributing to the whole community in their chosen pursuits while being unashamedly gay. Homosexuality for most people is just a part, albeit very important, of themselves, not everything about themselves as it is with these porn models.

    1. sportspeople!! cause the only people who straight society accepts is a sportsperson so if we get some gay ones we can convince everyone we’re just neutered and normal and just like them….you almost had me but you lost me there…

      1. Why not outstanding gay sportspeople who have shown that you can be the gay and the world’s best at what you do? Do only examples like Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple who is openly gay, or Johanna Siguroarottir, the past Prime Minister of Iceland and openly lesbian, count? The achievements of Matthew Mitcham and Tom Daley, the openly gay world champion divers from Australia and UK are just as worthy. Similarly, Ian Roberts, one of the first openly gay rugby players or athletes of any kind, helped to pave the way for gay people to enjoy and excel in sport. And the winners of the 2014 Bingham Cup, the Sydney Convicts have their trophy proudly displayed by the New South Wales Rugby League. The contributions of all these people by excelling at what they enjoy will go much farther than the efforts of porn models in promoting and achieving equality.

      2. Adam, stop trying to defend this lame, self-righteous, narcissistic “interview” by misquoting an intelligence informed commenter. He didn’t just say “sportspeople!”

  7. .............................

LOL. another gay porn star that thinking that he’s more than what he is which is a gay porn star.

bad enough, you have these gay porn stars/escorts acting like their professions are a “service” for the community where it’s something honorable or respectable like being a doctor or a police officer. you’re an entertainer entertaining us. that’s your job. stop trying to make yourself bigger than what you really are.

  8. The Gay Rights Movement is not “fundamentally about sexuality”. The Gay Rights Movement is fundamentally a struggle for FULL equality. It is a movement that seeks to attain all the same rights for LGBT people that Straight people enjoy. Why he acts in gay porn, only he knows. I would bet his reason, like most of our reasons for going to work, is to use whatever gifts we have in order to earn money, so that we can live comfortably.

  9. When did Austin Wilde change name and is he still straight ? I would not let my part touch him bcoz of that.

    1. sorry, are you saying you can’t tell the difference between Sean Zevran and Austin Wilde? u r really the worst…most terrible…

      1. Are we sure this isn’t a parody account? I could have sworn that there was someone who started mocking him. But then again I could very well see the real Jordi Lim posting something so stupid.

    2. hahhahaha best joke !!! though you should’ve used “worser” English to imitate the incomparable “Jordi Lim”

  10. Creating porn back then was an act of defiance, liberation and inclusion as one back then could look and say “Oh, they’re like me, they are doing things I may want to do or may already do (depending on your own experience) Now with gay and lesbian characters on nearly every t.v. show as well as the advent of social media and blogs we have things and people to look at and feel included. Porn helped pave that way to make us all a bit more visible.

Today however it’s a different story. Gay porn does play a role in sex lives of people I suppose but Sean needs to take a step back from self congratulatory speech and recognize what he is and what he’s doing. He’s a sex symbol and sex star but he’s making as much money as he can, party, have fun and move on. It’s obvious he read something that made him feel as if he’s part of this great history of gay pioneers and he is continuing their work. He’s not.

Make your money, have your fun and party like a rockstar but don’t try to act like you are doing anything other than that. Take a few seats please.

  11. Well said, if Sean just didn’t work for that dull as dishwater studio that specializes in faux sex(Falcon).
