Tom of Finland Exhibit Opens Tomorrow at Los Angeles Museum

Once just the stuff of spank banks and under-bed drawers, the porny work of Tom of Finland has risen to the level of high art, in case you hadn’t heard. L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art is about to open a full-scale exhibit of his art work, bulging crotches, super-sized cocks, and all.

The exhibit opens tomorrow, and the museum just put out this documentary teaser of sorts, featuring an interview with one of Tom’s longtime companions, Durk Dehner, who shared his L.A. home with Tom in his later years, and whose house has now become home to the Tom of Finland foundation.

Tom’s real name was Touko Laaksonen, and he was given the name Tom of Finland by Physique Pictorial publisher Bob Mizer in 1957. And just as this exhibit is happening, we should point out there’s also an indie film project in the works called Tom that’s trying to raise some cash for completing production.

We just wonder if the show is going to include a lot of the raunchier images, like this, or this, or this, or if they’re going to try to keep things tasteful.

  1. @2:10, I’m glad he said flower instead of rosebud. Still, doesn’t make either of them less funny lol.

The black dildo fountain was a nice touch. I wonder how long the exhibit will be, it’d be nice to see it in person.

I never had seen a pic of Tom of Finland and I thought he was someone like Liberace (LOL)…A flamboyant gueen surrounded by models like the ones he drew . Not even close the image this vídeo shows. Good to know.
