10 Fascinating Facts About Dallas Steele

In a recent in-depth interview with GayVN, the popular performer opened up about his life and career. Here are some of the most memorable stories and quotes from that two-part article.

You can read Part 1, “Man of Steele: The Origin Story for Adult Star Dallas Steele” and Part 2, “Man of Steele … The Rest of the Story” for the full, fascinating story—which includes his infamous account of the end of his career in broadcast journalism. Here are some of the highlights:

1. Dallas had a challenging upbringing. “My dad was an alcoholic years before I was born and continued to drink until 10 years after I left home. My brother, 10 years my senior, was a heroin addict by the time he was 17…but before dad passed in 2015, I had three amazing years where I actually got to know him as a sober man, and he got to know me as an adult gay man.” His mother had multiple bouts wit cancer, passing away in 2016 after numerous hard-fought (and won) battles.

2. He was teased and bullied all through junior high and high school. “In PE, the guys would slap my fat legs until I had welts. They smack my chest and grab my nipples, all the while being encouraged by the coach. I cut classes to avoid the teasing. I eventually tried to kill myself over my weight. I survived—then after treatment, took my GED and went on and graduated from college two years before my high school class. I also started walking three times per week and lost 60 pounds in just four months. I know I will be committed to maintaining healthy fitness until the day I die.”

3. He sneaked peaks at his dad’s (and step-dad’s) porn. “My biological dad always had magazines in the house—mostly Playboy, but occasionally he’d get a Hustler, which I preferred because they sometimes featured men with the women. Later after my mom remarried, she and my stepfather got a VCR. It was big as a house back then with a corded remote, but every afternoon, I’d be watching one of the hot straight movies they had, taking care of business there on the living room couch! To this day, I still pull some of those movies up on AEBN.”

4. As an adult, he still prefers watching straight porn. “Not sure why. But I’m mostly focused on the men or fantasizing about being the woman. The other thing watching gay porn is that I’m likely to see someone I know. And once you’ve done a scene with someone, your fantasy about them can change.”

5. He tragically lost his partner. “The stress and pressure of (his) new job was weighing on him, on top of a lifelong battle with depression. I had finished my shift as a bartender at the Dallas Eagle when I came home one night in August 2013 and found him face down in blood and vomit.”

6. His first shoot (a solo for COLT) had an audience. “At the time, I didn’t realize I could have watched porn on my phone or used a dildo. I thought you had to do it all without help…(production assistant) Tyler (Rush) made out with me, let me feel his body, ass, etc. But it was extra challenging because the owners of the home had invited friends over to watch, so there were probably 15 people watching during my first time.”

7. He was shook when Titan closed its doors. “It was pretty devastating. Titan was one of most legendary studios ever. And I had just three years shooting with them. I remember my first shoot and first paycheck in 2015 with Titan. Keith Webb said, ‘Enjoy this while you can. It won’t last.’ I thought he was referring to me in porn, but in reflection, he meant TitanMen was not going to be around much longer.”

8. Some fans aren’t happy when he expands his horizons. “I actually got hate mail about wearing lingerie for Gentleman’s Closet. And when I was sub in a scene with Michael Roman for Kink.com, I got tons of notes asking why I was not the dom. Uh, because I’m 100 percent versatile in real life, and wanted to experience the other side in a kink scene. How about that?”

9. He’s super proud of his GayVN Award nominated “Bound for Sodom” scene with Cody Winter for Kink, but isn’t that adventurous in his private life. “My scenes with Kink are way beyond anything I’ve ever done in real life. But I will say that I learn so much every time I shoot with Kink. And I have added a few things to my personal life from my experiences on camera. But prior to age 42, I was intensely vanilla.”

10. Age is an obstacle in this industry. “Anyone over 40 is pretty much ignored by mainstream gay porn—especially the major studios, one group in particular that really wants nothing to do with anyone over 40, much less over 50. If you are over 35 in porn, you have to work twice as hard as the twentysomethings. You have to promote yourself more. You have to interact more with fans. You have to constantly barrage studios with emails to get their attention. Doesn’t matter how good you look or how big your equipment is, all they see is the number—your age—and the gray hair.”
