2012 XBIZ Nominees Include Naked Sword’s Golden Gate, Lucas’ Assassin, Cybersocket(?!)

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since the first season of Naked Sword’s Golden Gate was released? Now, it’s been nominated in multiple categories at the 2012 XBIZ Awards. Here is the full list of nominees:

Gay Studio of the Year
Active Duty
Bel Ami
Channel 1 Releasing
COLT Studio Group
Hot House Entertainment
Jet Set Men
Lucas Entertainment
Raging Stallion/Falcon
Suite 703
Titan Media

Suite 703—the studio that has shut down and re-started more times than Trevor Knight’s career—being nominated is laughable. Last time I checked, they aren’t even shooting content anymore. Oh well. Maybe they scored a nod because they’re straight owned (by Naughty America) and the XBIZ Awards are, after all, predominantly a straight affair. Also, Falcon and Raging Stallion are lumped together as one now?

Gay Movie of the Year
Anthony’s Weener (Jet Set Men)
Assassin (Lucas Entertainment)
Cock Tales/Raising the Bar (Rascal/Channel 1)
Full Fetish (Titan Media)
Golden Gate: First Season/The Perfect Ten/Seduced by San Francisco (Naked Sword/Raging Stallion)
Jury Duty (Titan Media)
Muscles in Leather (COLT Studios)
The Other Side of Aspen VI (Falcon Studios)
Sex City 1 & 2 (Kristen Bjorn)
Trunks 6 (Hot House Entertainment)

All well deserved, but unless you count Raging Stallion’s co-producer credit on Golden Gate, this is the first time they’ve ever been shut out completely in the Best Movie category. Yikes.

Gay Director of the Year
Kristen Bjorn, Sex City (Kristen Bjorn Productions)
Tony DiMarco, Golden Gate (Naked Sword/Raging Stallion)
Chi Chi LaRue, Cock Tales/Raising the Bar (Channel 1 Releasing)
Joe Gage, Jury Duty (Titan Media)
Michael Lucas & Mr. Pam, Assassin (Lucas Entertainment)
Brian Mills & Paul Wilde, Full Fetish (Titan Media)
Steven Scarborough, Trunks 6 (Hot House Entertainment)
Chris Steele, Anthony’s Weener (Jet Set Men)
Chris Ward, The Other Side of Aspen VI (Falcon Studios)
Kristopher Weston, Muscles in Leather (COLT Studios)

Gay Web Company of the Year
BelAmi
Buddy Profits/Next Door Entertainment
Channel 1 Releasing (C1R.com)
Cybersocket
Dominic Ford
HotHouse
LucasEntertainment
Maleflixxx.tv / Sureflix
Naked Sword
Pride Bucks

I’m still waiting for someone to tell me just what exactly it is that Cybersocket actually does, aside from put on awards shows, but here they are alongside content producers, nominated for being a “web company.” Uhhh, OK.

Gay Site of the Year
BelAmiOnline.com
C1R.com
CockyBoys.com
ColtStudioGroup.com
CorbinFisher.com
Cybersocket.com
FalconStudios.com
HotHouse.com
LucasEntertainment.com
MaleFlixxx.tv
NextDoorMale.com
PeterFever.com
RagingStallion.com
RawandRough.com
SoYouThinkYouCanFuck.net

Another eternal question: What is the difference between “Gay Web Company” and “Gay Site” (other than an excuse to spread the nomination love around)? Also, Peter Le of Peter Fever is straight, so…yeah. Then again, so are all the guys on NextDoorMale, and CorbinFisher, and BelAmi, and…I’m so confused.

Gay Performer of the Year
David Anthony
Jessy Ares
Tony Buff
Samuel Colt
Landon Conrad
D.O.
Brent Everett
Adam Killian
Kyle King
Wilfried Knight
Angelo Marconi
Hunter Marx
Marcus Mojo
Spencer Reed
Junior Stellano

No Cody Cummings?!

Congratulations to all the nominees. The ceremony is set for January 10th in L.A.

    1. A party where all the porn stars crowd into one room, get tipsy, and (please, dear Jesus) someone shows his ass or takes off his pants.

  1. I agree these awards are a crock..the difference between gay site and gay web company SHOULD be the company that owns the site (which is generally a network of sites) compared the the individual website itself (for example Nextdoormale.com is the site, the web company behind this is GAMMAE).

However this is all wrong, as nearly all of them in the web company section are either a studio or a website, and not a web company.

  2. I was wondering the same thing as you Zach for Gay Studio of the year. Does that mean that Falcon/Raging will have a better chance to win than if they were both separate? They certainly put out a lot of films separately in the last year, but not one title really popped out on its own, just a scene or two from each film.

And how the hell is Titan not nominated for Gay Site of the year??? They have a ton of content on there not just from their own studios but also from studios such as All Worlds and Rascal!

And although farfetched, I’d like to see Jury Duty win for best film. They had the right combination of plot and sex. And the scenes were just amazing in my opinion, and that’s saying a lot since I’m normally not a huge fan of Joe Gage movies.

  3. I’m not sure I understand the criticism of the Peter Fever website. After all, in the contractors/soldiers in Iraq post, you did write: “If you don’t consider photos of men posing with hard cocks a form of gay pornography, sorry.” And, “As far as someone who doesn’t watch gay pornography (i.e., the DoD, straight people, the media) is concerned, this is gay pornography.”

    1. Not the same thing. As you quoted, I was talking about people removed from porn, not industry insiders arbitrarily categorizing content and deciding who should get awards.

And the underlying criticism—which is more of an observation, actually—is that there sure are a lot of “straight guys” in gay porn.

      1. In looking at the full list of nominees, I read “Gay Site of the Year” as a site marketed to the gay market. It’s not “Sites Owned by Gay People”.

My take on Gay Web Company vs Gay Site: Looking at the list, Gay Web Companies are studios that (sometimes) run multiple sites. Gay Sites are individual sites that are sometimes part of a Gay Web Company (like Next Door Male). I agree these categories make little sense. But, I’m guessing they did this to provide a category for single sites like Peter Fever. Personally, I think they should do Gay Web Company of the Year and Independent Site of the Year. That designation would provide a better distinction and allow smaller sites an opportunity to be featured. (Not that this will happen. As Jeffrey notes, these awards are directly linked to advertising and insider connections.)
