5 LGBTQ+ TV Shows & Movies to Stream This Weekend

It’s the frickin’ weekend, baby, let’s have some fun. And by fun, of course, I mean sitting in air conditioning in comfy clothes and not leaving the house. But what to have on in the background during all that doom scrolling and Grindr/Sniffies looking? Well, we’ve got you covered there. Here are five LGBTQ+ TV shows and movies you can stream this weekend.

The Boyfriend

Netflix new dating show The Boyfriend is sure to make you swoon this weekend. Unlike American dating shows like The Bachelor or Love Island, the men of The Boyfriend aren’t there for fame, they are there to find love and connection. In Japan’s first same-sex reality TV series, nine young men looking for love and friendship live and work together for a summer. Friendships are formed, crushes flourish, and real romance happens before our eyes. You can watch it dubbed in English or in Japanese with subtitles. Either way, let’s root for love this weekend.

The Umbrella Academy

While we are talking Netflix, it’s the final season of the superhero TV show The Umbrella Academy. I must say, I was an early fan but fell off the series. That being said, this fourth season stars Elliot Page, as always. It is really special and cool to see how the show honored and incorporated Elliot’s transition into the story. Also, if you’re on the fence about watching this last season, it co-stars Will and Grace icon Megan Mullally.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars

Many of us are suffering from Drag Race fatigue. All Stars 9 charity season was….rough. But brighter days are ahead, fans. After years of speculation, RuPaul’s Drag Race debuts Global All Stars on Paramount+, which is somehow different than Vs. the World? Not sure how yet, but we’ll see. The key takeaway here is that fan favorite Alyssa Edwards is back, back, back again to represent America, and I can’t wait for the memes and GIFs.

Fire Island

Maybe it’s a movie night you’re looking for. Maybe a date night. Mid-August is the perfect time to stream the acclaimed Hulu film Fire Island, a gay Asian retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It’s a great summertime flick, full of romance, abs, and comedy. The all-gay cast is incredible! You’ll have a hard time choosing who was your favorite by the end.

Death Becomes Her

Calling all camp queens! The cult 1992 film Death Becomes Her is streaming on Amazon Prime. The film stars Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as a pair of immortal frenemies set out to destroy each other. Beyond the special effects, Death Becomes Her is a truly funny and outrageous comedy, worth the hype and the infamy. It’s also about to be a big Broadway musical this fall. And really as a gay PSA: if you are banging someone from Gen Z, it is your duty to show the next generation the great gay classics.

And once you’re done streaming LGBT+ TV and movies, head over to NakedSword (the Netflix of gay porn).

  1. THE BOYFRIEND should be good. Japan has a different culture. It is more about connection. The West has this silly thing about seeking fame for fame’s sake.
Alyssa Edwards: I love her! And it´s interesting to watch how are the Drag Queens of different countries.
DEATH BECOMES HER: This film is a total pleasure.

      1. i watched the trailer/promotion from “The Boyfriend”….this is really something new and to watch…but all this other “LGBT Qweerty”…mostly boring…and we have seen it before…
