Gaydar Nation: Tell us a little about your single ‘Closer To You?’
Dean Monroe: At the beginning of 2008, I was desperate to do something with my singing and song writing. Of course, without financial backing and support from a record company, it’s almost impossible to get noticed. So I decided to produce the song, promote it and sell it all on my own using the internet. With my tiny celebrity status in the gay world. I managed to get it out there. I think I’ve sold about 5,000 copies all together so far.
GN: I’ve seen some video clips of you performing it with some sexy dancers. Do you enjoy the big production number side of the industry?
DM: Oh, yes! Give me a glossy stage surrounded by LED screens and a group of dancers and I’m in heaven, the bigger the better. I love a big show. That’s what excites me as a viewer and even more as a performer.
GN: You have a great body and obviously work out – what’s your fitness secret?
DM: Thank you. I’m very consistent with my workout and conscious of my diet. I exfoliate and moisturise daily. That’s it, really.
GN: So what do you think is your best asset and what would you change if you could?
DM: I like touching and playing with my ass, so that’s my best asset and that’s a public opinion, okay. If I would change something, it would be my height. I’d love to be three inches taller.
GN: So can you give us a good gay sex tip?
DM: Always use lube – it makes things so much easier. Always carry some mints or mouth spray with you, there is nothing worse than kissing a gorgeous guy and discovering he has bad breath. It’s a real turn off for me.
GN: What cliché most applies to you or your life?
DM: ‘Oh, he is such a whore, he must get laid every night’. I hear that all the time, but it is so far from the truth. I’m actually a home boy at heart and would rather have less, but quality, sex than go around screwing everything on two legs.
GN: So what comes first: sex or love?
DM: Love is very difficult for me. It doesn’t happen very often, or perhaps I don’t let myself fall in love so I can’t get hurt. Sex is easier but, as I said before, less of it and better quality.
GN: Work apart, do you believe in monogamy?
DM: I would like to say yes, but unfortunately the way the scene is today it’s hard to find someone who can commit to one person. I put myself in that category, as well. In fact, it’s almost the norm now for gay couples to be in open relationships.
GN: Can you remember your first date – where did you go and have you kept in contact?!
DM: My first date aged 16 was with a Greek guy in Mykonos. I was with my sister on the beach and he came up to me and asked me to join him for dinner that night. After dinner, he took me to a tranny bar, which I found so bizarre as I’d never seen a man dressed as a woman before. No, we did not keep in touch.
