If there’s one thing Alan Cumming is passionate about, it’s circumcision. The actor and longtime circumcision opponent has given many interviews denouncing the practice in the past and now he’s doubling down on his stance. In a new interview with the Guardian the actor discusses having an intact foreskin while living in a country where most men are circumcised.
“I never thought anything about my foreskin,” he said. “And then I came to America and I was having sex and people would just be gasping because they’d never seen a foreskin before. I was made to feel weird and freakish because I had an intact body.”
Alan has always been an avid fighter against circumcision. He was once commissioned to write an article for the Wall Street Journal on the subject, but the publication found it “too raw” for their readers, so Cumming published it on his own site. The Burlesque star also published the book May the Foreskin Be with You: Why Circumcision Makes No Sense and What You Can Do About It in 2012.
In his interview with the Guardian, Cumming went on to criticize people who circumcise others for religious purposes. He called the practice “ridiculous.”
“It’s genital mutilation. And I think people say: ‘Oh, that’s hysterical.’ But we do it to girls and it’s called genital mutilation,” said the star. “We choose to keep doing some things and we just let the weirdest things go.”
What do you think about Cumming’s comments? Should we stop circumcising people? Should we let the practice continue? Should it be considered genital mutilation? Vote in the poll below and explain your reasoning down in the comments!
Cut or uncut: good cock is good cock.
Sure a lot of straight Muslim men have said the same thing about female circumcision. Pussy’s pussy, right?
Nope. Comparing male circumcision with female circumcision is like comparing a manicure with an amputation.
Actually it’s comparing the nonconsensual removal of a large portion of a minor child’s sex organs to the nonconsensual removal of a large portion of a minor child’s sex organs. If once that child becomes an adult, they opt for the surgery without coercion, enjoy!
I think the best policy is to declare circumcision a cosmetic procedure. Hospitals and doctors cannot perform it and insurance cannot cover it. However, parents can take a seminar to learn about circumcision and they’re options. Once they have a certificate of completion, they can hire a cosmetic surgeon that deals in infant and minor child cosmetic surgery. They pay for that out of pocket. This would limit circumcision while maintaining the rights of those who deeply feel that it’s necessary. Certain deformities which require procedures similar to circumcision would be covered as those are medically valid. That’s my position.
Parents “can take a seminar” or must take a seminar and get “a certificate of completion” Sound like you got your idea from Chinese Communist reeducation centers.
Huh. I gotta look into these Communist Re-education Centers. They sound awesome!
We don’t need anyore ashy two-toned dicks!
