Bearded Lady Preggers in Oregon

Tom’s wife, Nancy, suffered from severe endometriosis 20 years back and underwent a hysterectomy. Tom has been transgendered for the majority of their ten-year relationship, having started on hormone treatments and stopped having regular periods eight years ago, but chose to retain the possibility of bearing a child by not surgically altering his female genitalia.

In the straight world it’s always kind of a tough room for the trans, at least when their transgenderism becomes known. Certainly for Tom, who’s now five months pregnant (btw, it’s a girl! due in July!), hiding the fact of his semi-manhood is going to be extra difficult, particularly in the delivery room or when the in-law’s start trying to figure out where the baby came from (Nancy’s parents do not know that Tom is transgendered, and the new, biological grandchild is sure to be a swell miracle to explain come Christmas).

Obviously, Tom is in way better shape than this guy, and we’re glad he’s secure and clear-headed enough about it all to write a piece in The Advocate introducing us to this new possibility in modern parenting. “Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me,” Tom writes, “I am stable and confident being the man that I am.”

Maybe this would be a good time to stop employing the male/female binary, Tom?
