Check Out Trailers For New Queer Ryan Murphy Shows

Ryan Murphy has given the gays so much. From Nip/Tuck to Glee to his popular anthology series, like Feud, American Horror Story, and American Crime Story, he has kept us fed. This September, Ryan Murphy gives us two new true-crime shows with very queer plot lines. First, we get the long-awaited retelling of the 1989 Menedez murders in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Then Ryan explores the life of the closeted gay football player Aaron Hernandez in American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

Following the success of the gay-themed Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Netflix teams up with Ryan Murphy again for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The show tells the real-life story of handsome, wealthy brothers who murdered their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion. The story gripped the nation at the time. But critics wonder if the brothers’ defense would have played better with a modern jury. Who were the real monsters in this story? Even in this first-look trailer, you see the cracks in this seemingly perfect family. We hear a mom who wants to uncover the true nature of her husband’s relationship with their sons. The starry cast features Chloe Sevigney as Kitty and Javier Bardem as Jose with Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch as their sons, Lyle and Erik. Monsters begins streaming on Netflix September 19.

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez

The other high-profile TV project from Ryan Murphy is the debut of American Sports Story. The first season of this limited series focuses on football player Aaron Hernandez. The show is an adaptation of the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. and talks about his career on the field, his hidden sexuality, his arrest, and his death. Hernandez played three seasons for the New England Patriots until his arrest and conviction. The series stars hunky newcomer Josh Andrés Rivera as Aaron Hernandez. American Sports Story begins on FX September 17.

  1. The conviction and imprisonment of the Menendez brothers is one of the major injustices of our so-called justice system.
