Children Free to Look at Porn on Internet, Says Supreme Court

Due to multiple legal challenges to its Constitutionality, the law–which the Bush Administration lobbied hard for–never took effect, but it essentially would have barred any online adult content providers from making explicit material available to minors.  The Supreme Court rejected the government’s third attempt to overturn a lower court’s decision–stating that content filters are far more effective than any law could be–and have the high court hear the case.

Apart from having a magic genie pop out of the computer to check a user’s ID, we’re not sure how anyone ever expected to enforce this law, which clearly would have violated the First Amendment.

In related news, Australian fundies have been trying to put into law a nationwide porn filter, to no avail.
