In the long-awaited sequel to Answered Prayers, virtually all roads lead to New Orleans and the site of a mysterious religious studies institute funded by the strange Van Deerin family—whose tragic history has woven through other CockyBoys features like The Haunting, Answered Prayers and Meeting Liam. The institute is the epicenter for intrigue, inexplicable phenomenon, and seemingly unrelated characters all at the center of spiral traversing time and mystic realms.
Running 2 hours and 13 minutes, this new cut focuses on a few of the scenes from Chapter 1 featuring Carter Dane, Calvin Banks, Adam Ramzi, Levi Karter, Sean Ford and Jacen Zhu. Parts 3 and 4 from the original release (which featured Ricky Roman with Francois Sagat, and then the duo with Boomer Banks and Josh Moore) are not here, and fans may remember that the Ford/Zhu pairing was released under the “Chapter 2” label. So yes, this project’s history has been a little confusing, and not helped by the lengthy time between scene releases. But this is the right way to watch, as it presents a more accessible, fan-friendly timeline and flow—and as usual features gorgeous cinematography, locations, sets and costumes (it’s like, you know, a real movie).
Wheels are set in motion when precocious student Adrian (Banks) arrives at the institute, unknowingly under the watchful eye of Answered Prayers character Puck (Karter), who has returned to our earthly plane. Adrian is late though, coming in the middle of a lecture on religion conducted by a professor and priest (Ramzi). Meanwhile, in New York City, Carter Dane is about to embark on his business trip for the Van Deerins to the New Orleans institute. But before going he calls his regular service to hire an escort..who turns out to be Puck.
Sometime later while delving more into the past lives project files, Carter is drawn to a confidential file over 50 years old. The subject is an unnamed teenager who has long suffered vivid nightmares of a past life in Depression Era Louisiana. It’s the life of a lonely, motherless John Van Deerin (Ford) who wanders about the countryside digging up and collecting old bottles and who later encounters and is befriended by fellow junk collector Luke (Zhu )
