Dylan Vox Discusses Porn-to-Mainstream Crossover on MSNBC

The article points to Traci Lords showing up on Gilmore Girls and Sasha Grey’s appearance in Steven Soderbergh’s newest, The Girlfriend Experience, but the piece centers on Dylan/Brad and his success on here! TV’s gay vampire soap The Lair and several independent film roles including (natch) that movie Pornography.

While we wouldn’t quite consider a role on The Lair a foothold in mainstream stardom, MSNBC seems happy enough with the example being set by Vox/Benton — who says porn sets are “pretty much like any other set — ….there’s craft services, people were doing makeup and taking care of you, and a lot of sitting around.” He also compares himself at one point to that blonde bitch on The View:

“I think people get hung up on where you came from as opposed to where you’re going… Elisabeth Hasselbeck was on Survivor, and like it or not, she actually has something to say, and it’s been intriguing for people to watch, but they never would have hired her for The View if she hadn’t been on Survivor first. The industry wasn’t open to her.”

Watch out, Hasselbeck!  Dylan officially has his eyes on your seat at that ladies’ table. Below, Dylan’s acting real, which is full of clips from The Lair.

  1. Jake Deckard, you told Jason Sechrest you attended acting school and that every porn star wants to be a true actor.

You should audition for things. You might have been better than Colton Ford in that cop role on THE LAIR.

I understand a big problem for any actor is finding quality material and projects to work on — especially among gay indies.

  2. You’re right, gay independent DVDs and cable TV is a far cry from “mainstream” success or audiences. THE LAIR is nothing to be proud of and MSNBC doesn’t point out that Vox is only tolerated by a niche audience.

The biggest obstacle to “mainstream success” in show business isn’t Dylan Vox’s porn past — it’s his face. It’s beakish and fugly.

Couple that with the fact that Vox is pathologically narcissistic, annoying and socially conservative with pedestrian tastes (he hated BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN) and you have someone with little appeal to the folks who run “mainstream show business.”
