A contemporary of Mel Roberts and AMG’s Bob Mizer, Bruce’s highly influential
“beefcake” photography was a forerunner to the gay porn we all take for granted
today and influenced everyone from Robert Mapplethorpe, Bruce Weber,
your secretly gay dad, and so on.
35 years after his death, powerHouse Books is releasing Outside/In a hoity-toity, superglossy, two-volume look at his work, which includes a DVD of his never-before-seen films and text by New Yorker writer Vince Aletti.
At $150 a pop, we might have to see if we can finagle a press copy for ourselves, but until then, here’s some pictures from it.
