François Sagat Tells ‘Out’ He’s “On Sabbatical” From Porn

francoisthumbAfter trying on a bunch of underwear, the French porn star tells legally troubled Here Media’s fashion magazine that he’s done with porn, for now. Video below.

In case you thought Out only worshipped straight actors who play gay characters in mainstream entertainment, gay porn star François Sagat is all over their site today with a photo layout, a video interview, and a print interview. Actually, gay porn stars turn up in the Advocate and Out all the time now since parent company Here Media doesn’t have its red-headed porn step children Men, Freshmen, and Unzipped to do the dirty work anymore. Curiously, when I wrote for those magazines and edited the Unzipped blog, the suits at Here were constantly instructing me and other staffers to tone down–if not eliminate–all the hardcore or NSFW content that made those brands successful (any guess as to why all those properties are now defunct?). Nothing like a little porn shame to dictate the business decisions made by people running…a porn company.

The shame doesn’t apply when you put a porn star in a designer unitard, I guess.

And here’s the bit about his break from porn, as well as some studio contract details:

Sagat moved back in with his mother at 24, unhappy with his career. “I gave myself one year,” he says. “My life didn’t look like anything I wanted, so I said, Let’s do something with your body instead. Let’s do something with what you got now.” What followed was a transition from frustrated duckling to badass swan. A year later, he moved back to Paris and began stripping. French porn studio Citebeur came calling, and he made three videos under the nom de porn Azzedine. The first movie, he says, was “a real sexual act. I was into the guy and there was one camera, so it was so much easier.” Six months later, he was in the United States. Titan passed on him, but Raging Stallion did not.

“I would have preferred to work for Titan first,” he says, “but I got screwed. When I was signing the contracts, I was not speaking such great English. I respected the time, but my contract was over.” He had a meeting with Titan, and they didn’t make the same mistake twice. Now he’s on sabbatical. The last inquiry about his return was answered, “I miss you guys too, but not now. It’s too soon.”

And here’s a couple more photos. If Here Media were smart and knew how to get the right kind of attention, they’d start allowing nudes in Out (tasteful ones, of course) like DNA does. They might not be able to get people from Glee on their covers anymore, but that’s actually a good thing. Anyone interested in François Sagat isn’t going to buy a magazine to see him in underwear, they’re going to buy one of his movies to see him get fucked.

  1. I loved this guy. He was the reason I came out, I was a fan and in interviews he was so proud to be gay, so strong so sure of it, but I just found out he isn’t gay, I feel like I was lied to. I have no problem with a man being straight and doing gay porn, let’s face it there are a lot of them in the industry, but they tell it true, but Sagat he lied just to sell movies. I know I’ll never spend another cent on him or anysites that feature him. My friends and I plan on protesting his works. NYC is proud to be GAY and we don’t need liars and fakes in the culture.

  2. NIce interview in Out magazine…I wish Mr Sagat all the best in whatever he does in the future whether or not he comes back to porn. I guess it may be time for me to pick a new ultimate porn star.
