Gay characters have been portrayed as effeminate or weak; they’re “fashionistas” or “gay best friends.” Street gang members, on the other hand, are often depicted as hypermasculine, heterosexual and tough.
Do gay gang members have to prove their toughness before they are, or feel, accepted? But if you think about it, we don’t have to be a gang to fell we need to “present proper.” And how fucking sad is that?
