Officials are investigating the disappearance of Glee actress Naya Rivera. Her 4-year-old son was found alone on a rented boat on Southern California’s Lake Piru on Wednesday night with Rivera nowhere to be found.
Her son reportedly told officials that his mom jumped in the lake, but didn’t come back up.
Authorities started their search for the actress last night, but suspended the search due to nightfall. The search was resumed this morning at daylight. TMZ is reporting that officials are now treating the case as a possible drowning and have shifted the search from a recovery mission to a rescue mission.
“She went missing in water with only 5 to 9 inches of visibility, and authorities say the lake is filled with trees and debris on the bottom,” TMZ reported. “Law enforcement says it typically takes 7 to 10 days for a body to rise to the surface.”
Rivera’s former Glee stars and other friends have been sending out messages of support and love since news broke of her disappearance last night. Actress Heather Morris, Rivera’s onscreen girlfriend in Glee, posted on her Instagram story that “we need all the prayers we can get to bring out Naya back home to us.”
