Just as gay porn often fetishizes straight men and violence, it seems that ‘straight’ and violent homophobes fetishize gay porn. Researchers at the University of Georgia gathered up 35 homophobic men and 29 non-homophobic men and kept tabs on everyone’s willies while projecting straight, lesbian and gay porn.

Homophobes and non-homophobes were aroused about the same amount by the straight and lesbian porn videos. But with the gay porn, 54% of the homophobes were aroused, compared to just 24% of the non-homophobes.

Psychoanalytic theory suggests that homophobia in men is a reaction to repressed homosexuality. But the study mentions anxiety as a competing explanation for the aroused homophobes. The researchers note that anxiety, along with other negative emotions, “has been shown to enhance arousal and erection,” and so it’s possible that the homophobes sported wood as “a function of the threat condition rather than sexual arousal per se.”

The scientists say that further research is necessary, so we’re going to do our part this weekend by analyzing the differences in how homophobic and non-homophobic straight men respond to being drugged, dragged back to our dingy apartment and date-raped.
