Ian Frost Looks For ‘Boyfriend of the Night’ In Circuit Party Web Show

The first episode for the new YouTube docuseries The Circuit just dropped and even though it isn’t that great, we’re excited for what’s to come.

The Circuit is a new YouTube docuseries from DANL Productions. The show “explores the underground LGBTQ circuit community by following the lives of influencers that live within this world.” It will feature major circuit figures along with some popular gay porn stars. Nina Flowers, Sam Gee, Joe Pacheco, Ian Frost, Shane Jackson, Shane Marcus, Manuel Skye, Alec Brian, Eugene, Trey, Shane Marcus, DJ Paulo and Darius Glover are all set to appear throughout the series.

The first episode of the show focuses a lot on circuit party 101. It’s a lot of basic info you probably already know. But on the plus side, you have RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni and circuit party staple Nina Flowers talking you through it. They take us through the importance of their role as the DJ of “a gay rave.”

The main narrative of the pilot surrounds porn stars Ian Frost and Shane Jackson. We watch them as they’re driven to M.E.A.T., a circuit party where they will perform as go-go dancers. There’s a lot of forced, unnatural dialogue between the two of them. They awkwardly discuss how much they love Nina and how much fun the night is going to be. We eventually see them dancing in the club and Ian goes searching for his “boyfriend of the night.”

Again, a lot of the dialogue in the first episode seemed forced. The talking heads were fine, but watching Ian and Shane chat in the club was weird and didn’t read well on camera. But this pilot gave us a lot of DJ Nina Flowers screen time, so not all is lost.

The “next time” teaser at the end gave me hope for the series as it progresses. There was mention of a dark room and implications of people getting fucked up on things other than alcohol, aka two of the major things circuit parties are known for. I mean, it is a docuseries, not a reality show. I expect to get a realistic look at the circuit community – for better or for worse. And judging by the teaser, we might actually be getting that in future episodes. So while this first episode didn’t excite us, it seems like there’s a lot more substantial subject matter in the future and we’re looking forward to see what happens next.
