If Lance Black Isn’t Taking His Mom to the Oscars, Will He Take Us?

You can watch the complete reveal in the handy video, straight from the Academy, below.  But we feel compelled to offer this quick bit of Sports-Center-style analysis of the picks, and the obvious snubs.

  1. You can all calm down because Milk received a bunch of nominations, including Best Picture, Original Screenplay for our buddy Lance (if we had to guess, this would be the consolation prize the film will mostly likely walk away with…), Best Actor for Sean Penn, Best Director for Gus Van Sant, and Supporting Actor for Josh Brolin.
  2. Revolutionary Road was largely snubbed, with no nominations for Leo, Kate, director Sam Mendes and just a surprise nod to supporting actor Michael Shannon.  Kate Winslet did pick up a Best Actress nod for The Reader, for which she one Supporting at the Globes.
  3. Heath Ledger received the posthumous nom for The Dark Knight that everyone was expecting.  This is of course not the first time the Academy has honored someone dead–Peter Finch of won posthumously for 1976’s Network.
  4. Brangelina was nominated. Terrific. Won’t they feel on top of the world this year.  This is Brad’s first nomination since 12 Monkeys so we suppose we’re happy for him.
