Ryan Murphy’s newest Netflix show Hollywood drops on Friday and star Jim Parsons is giving us one great reason to tune in. Mass amounts of nudity! Apparently the show has so much nudity that Parsons actually became uncomfortable around the hoards of naked extras.
“I’ve gone to a lot of gay clubs in my time and I’ve never seen that many naked people at once. Ever. I mean, I don’t think that’s legal in most places. But it was really awkward and shocking at first,” Parsons told Ellen DeGeneres on Monday. “If this doesn’t get people to watch the show, nothing will! We were surrounded by so many naked people. I just kept trying not to look, but it was hours we were doing this. I stopped not trying to look at some point.”
The new Netflix series is set in post-World War 2 Hollywood and features the regular cast of actors you would expect from a Ryan Murphy production. Glee and American Crime Story vet Darren Criss has a major role alongside The Politician’s David Corenswet and Parsons, who previously appeared in Murphy’s The Normal Heart. The show also features two-time Tony Award nominee Jeremy Pope and legend, icon, and star Patti LuPone. The 7-episode drama centers around diversity in the film industry and mixes fantasy and fact together to create a magical “what if” reality.
Besides all the naked extras, Parsons didn’t spill on who we should expect to see naked on screen. The cast is full of hunks so we’ll gladly watch any of them take their clothes off, but hopefully we’ll see Darren Criss show some skin. I mean, we already saw him bare his whole ass on Versace, so he might as well do it again.
Parsons went on to say that he has a huge respect for anyone who is comfortable enough that they can freely walk around in their birthday suit on set.
“I was just like, you know what I really feel is admiration,” Parsons said. “To have that kind of relationship with your body, that you’re able to walk around naked in front of the huge crew and all these other actors and everything. In and out of the swimming pool… Now, I want to add, there wasn’t a bad looking one in the bunch. They worked for that confidence. Or born with it. I don’t know.”
