Joe Manganiello Made a Male Stripper Documentary and We’re Still Supposed to Believe He’s Straight

True Blood star Joe Managniello has long been rumored to be gay, and this might prove it. He’s just directed his first documentary, and to do so he spent countless hours in a male strip club called La Bare, upon which Magic Mike was obviously based.

The club has branches in Dallas, Houston, and Miami, and it features elaborate costumes and “characters,” much the way Magic Mike did. Manganiello told this Chicago gay rag that he knew someone who worked at La Bare in Dallas in the 90s and he game him the idea for the fireman routine he did in Magic Mike.

Anyway, does everyone remember what Joe Manganiello looks like? Let’s just start there.

Unfortunately he is not in this movie.

He hasn’t come out as gay, but he was an acting school classmate of openly gay actor Matt Bomer, and in this interview he talks about being an alcohol-company shot boy back in the 90s, for Finlandia and Captain Morgan.

I was actually in Chicago when I was 21. I got a job that summer working for Finlandia Vodka. We wound up here (in Chicago) promoting Finlandia during the Pride Festival. I was wearing a tuxedo and they sent me in with a tray of Finlandia vodka drinks into a bar –- I don’t know if it’s still here – called the Manhole… I ended up veering right into a backroom with a metal spider-web [laughs], at 21, man! That was educational, I’ll just say that.

Also, he had an “engagement” to a lady back in 2010 that was called off in 2012.

Below, the red-band trailer for the new doc, La Bare, which shows a lot of Magic Mike-style stripping, the ladies who enjoy strippers, and the story of a La Bare dancer, Angelo a.k.a. Ruben, who was killed in 2012.

  1. I saw this at Slamdance and unfortunately there isn’t anything remotely gay about it. I would have loved to have programmed it at Outfest. I also met Joe and didn’t get a gay vibe from him at all. His GF was sitting next to me and she was a hot number. But who the hell knows.

  2. You are reaching for the stars.Sit your ass down.Something that puzzles me.We can’t fuck EVERY SINGLE attractive man.Straight men exist.Stop.

  3. OMG! He was in the same class with Matt Bommer? He’s gotta be a fag then. With it being contagious and all…

    1. If Joe Manganiello were really gay and/or had any kind of taste, he would have snatched up Matt Bomer then and there.

  4. Why does his sexual orientation even matter? That’s none of our business. The fact that a person’s sexuality continues to be treated as scandalous gossip not only sets us back as a society, it also makes it that much harder to come out. It’s time we stop. Unless he’s some right-wing hypocrite, I say leave him alone.

As for the documentary, I don’t see myself watching it since they tend to come packaged with a sob story. Take Striptease for example. What should’ve been a fun and exciting movie about strippers turned out to be a drama about a woman who not only loses her job and custody of her daughter, but also is the victim of stalking and blackmail by a congressman. So no thanks. I don’t want to know about a sex worker’s personal life.

  5. he isn’t gay. in fact, i would say that a straight guy would more than likely make a documentary about this than a gay man would.
