Kink.com Lashes Back at Cal-OSHA Over Fines

The state-run employee health and safety agency, Cal-OSHA, has levied $78,000 in fines against fetish porn company Kink.com, and Kink is now saying that the fines are excessive and “politically motivated.”

Kink was of course at the center of that unfortunate HIV situation last summer involving two of its performers — both of whom seem to have likely been infected off-set, on their personal time. And longtime foe of all things bareback, the L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation, hosted a press conference starring a teary Cameron Bay and boyfriend Rod Daily after their infections were made public.

In a press release today, Kink says that it’s the AHF, or rather “outside groups with a long history of opposition to adult film,” who are responsible for the complaints about workplace safety at Kink that led to citations from Cal-OSHA and all these fines. The largest of the fines relate to the company’s policy of allowing performers to choose whether or not they want condoms used in a scene.

Kink CEO Peter Acworth notes that “The complaints which prompted the inspection [by Cal-OSHA] were not made by actual employees,” and he says, “We’ll be appealing the citations.”

I wonder how Cal-OSHA handles, uh, water sports?

Also, Diane Duke of industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition, goes on the record saying, “The inspections have less to do with risks to performers, and more to do with stoking public fear about adult film. For reasons that have more to do with morality than science, opponents of adult film have created a climate of harassment that is driving a legal business out of California.”

As that Men.com director, Ryan R., said in that recent documentary footage we pointed to, the condom law that the AHF got passed in L.A. has only driven straight porn companies out of L.A. County to shoot in San Bernardino, or wherever. And even with condoms on shoots, all porn companies now adhere to rigorous testing of performers every 14 days — a policy that’s been in place since the Bay/Daily situation and subsequent porn moratorium in September.

  1. You all should be outraged and majorly pissed off at Michael Weinstein and The AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Weinstein makes more than $300,000 a year and this is what he is spending his time doing. What is your annual salary? The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that has been diverting private donations and government funding away from HIV research and programs for people living with HIV to illegally lobby and create laws to police condoms in pornography. Yes this is where your tax dollars are going people.

  2. That dude’s urine is too yellow, it’s almost brownish. That is a sign of dehydration. Someone pass him some water!

    1. Which is another issue and reflects poorly on Kink. Most studios give very specific instructions to talent on what to do a day or so before a piss scene is shot and take precautions to make sure that the urine is as odorless and colorless as possible.

  3. So in regards to the photo: he whitened his teeth so people could pee on them or what?…and in regards to the piece: they should be shut down, not fined.

    1. They should be shut down and not fined? You are fucking out of your mind. Consenting adults doing what consenting adults do. I guess you work for Lifestyles Condoms too?

      1. It’s not what they do, but HOW they do it. I’m not financially motivated, I just want to see a healthy society both physically and mentally and this is definitely not indicative of either. Either are you.

        1. Just lead by example. Those who are like minded will follow you while the rest will do what feels right to them. Live and let live.

      2. Sorry dude but you will never convince me that someone with a cut and bleeding penis shouldn’t stop having sex or in this case stop filming, which happened in the shoot that caused OSHA to investigate. The scene they were fined for, the female talent had a horrific bruise on her breast and had to seek medical treatment.
