Live Cam Shows: Love Them or Hate Them, They’re Huge

Are cam shows the future of porn? Perhaps they’ll never actually replace traditional porn, but there is something to be said for the excitement of getting to directly connect with a porn star and tell them to bend over and show you their starfish.

Sites like Flirt for Free and Cam 4 have been around for a while, and nowadays Randy Blue, Corbin Fisher, and COLT all host or advertise live shows. Even the New York Times sat up and took notice a couple months ago with a feature story about the trend. They noted obvious stuff like the fact that unlike traditional porn, cam shows can’t be pirated, and if you want to talk to porn star (or cam star) and make them do stuff, you have buy tokens, making it all a brilliant money-making model for pervs who want to be (almost) hands-on with their masturbation material. It’s estimated that camming now brings in about $1 billion, compared to the $5 billion currently made in the regular porn industry, both gay and straight.

One time golden boy of the traditional porn industry Zack Randall, who appeared poised for a comeback in 2011, appears to now be making a living down in Phoenix doing cam shows like this one yesterday from the comfort of his own home. Care to spend some tokens to make him shave his beard?

And of course GayHoopla just launched this past summer, featuring cam shows with Sword fave and GayHoopla founder Dmitry Dickov, among others. Guys like former Fratman Tayler/Doc TayTay are obviously made for the medium, because they’re free-wheeling exhibitionists who don’t need a script, and who obviously get off on the immediate interaction and attention — not to mention that such immediacy and intimacy with dedicated fans can lead to other rewards, off one’s Amazon’s wish list, for example. And cam shows aren’t limited to these solo situation either — in fact on Gay Hoopla tonight, Friday November 15 at 7 p.m. PST, Cole Money and JJ Swift are going to be doing a live sex show, and fucking for the home audience.

What do you think, readers? Are cam shows fun? Boring? A waste of money? Do tell us.

  1. I payed for Cam shows 5/6 years ago, before i had the courage to actually pursue guys in real life. They served their purpose. You get that interaction that you’re craving. It is hella pricy. If i get bored, i’ll go to flirt4free. It’s not like before. The models who are willing to chat in the main room are few and far between, which makes sense, this is their job and they’re just looking for men who are serious and will pay for the private chats.

  2. A very expensive way to spend time with your favorite porn star. Why not just go on Rentboy and then you can be face to face with your favorite porn star? Then again this is much safer for the models to make a living than escorting.

  3. Infos coming from several forums about cam shows:
Cam shows are a way to hooking up voyeurs. Offering a better/longer/cheaper 1on1 show via skype. Transaction using ppal or other. Once they have the money, they never deliver the show. It appears that lots of F4F “stars” are making lots of money that way….. Lots of “sold shows but no show”! Former Eastern Countries models are the Kings doin this, according the Forums.

Finally, a real porn movie delivers what is promised, for less money.

  4. Whether we love it or not, it’s getting more and more popular in porn. And sites like Randy Blue are focusing more on them, because that is where they are making most of their profit. They make a killing in their duo shows the most. I think RB now uses their porn scenes more for promoting the webcam shows, especially for a handful of specific models.

Also I think this is a good option for those customers who want to interact with the model who don’t have the type of money for a one-on-one escorting session, or are just too far away to make one possible.

  5. I would rather pay for actual porn–Or an escort–But a cam show is essentially paying for an escort that you can’t touch. What’s the point?
