When my HIV was at it’s worst, I had full blown AIDS. My CD4 count was 18 and my viral load was well over one million and a half. That’s when I knew I was sick and that’s when I was hospitalized with pcp phenomena. I almost died.
During that time of critical levels of HIV virus in my system, I suffered considerable brain cell loss. What once was easy became hard, if not impossible. Memory loss was a major frustration. Reading became a major challenge. I would reverse letters and words and what once was taken for granted in reading, writing and comprehension was now a distant memory, (no pun intended)
Today, my HIV virus is undetectable and my cd4 count is almost 500. Yet, I still struggle forming thoughts and putting them on paper properly sometimes, but like anything working to become better is time well spent.
At the end of my day, I’m grateful for where my life has rebounded to from where I was at my very worst point in all of this. I realize that I have deficiencies at times where I did not have before – but I can live with that.
Sometimes life becomes a series of trade offs. It’s not how you might want it, but it’s what you have and if you’ve ever been really sick – you’re grateful for every moment of it that you have.

Mason needs to have some sort of drama going on in his life 24/7 and it gets really tiring. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. I agree with MDJ that Mason needs to get some therapy so he needs to move on to the next xhapter of his life.

People don’t become infected with AIDS you idiot, they become infected with HIV, which over time, and untreated, can and most times does turn into AIDS, which if you had educated yourself before you had spoken – you would have learned that you develop AIDS when your CD4+ T cells fall below 200 as your immune system continues to deteriorate.
An important distinction which someone with your higher level education should have been aware of. Perhaps you missed that chapter in your life.

Beyond his HIV-positive status and unsafe sex practices, I’m more concerned about this mental health than physical at this point. His former crazy blog posts involving violence such as rape, the emotional toll on his now compromised immune system, relations with those in the industry from his angry roommates and fired employment, Mason Wyler really should see a therapist of some kind. Beyond those to maintain his immune system, a psychiatrist would probably recommend some sort of antidepressant and mood stabilizers. After the stress of the wild year(s) he’s managed to survive, an hour of one-on-therapy, a support group for those recently diagnosed w/HIV, and monthly mental medical updates should definitely be in the mix before and during any sort of career move.
