Easy Video Player

embed directly on page
– no “share” – but will see if we can do something about that

will avoid all those connection issues we were having – the majority of the players want a playlist – it becomes very clunky when you are just doing single videos

  • self hosted: url=”http://example.com/wp-content/uploads/videos/vid1.mp4″
  • autoplay=”true”
  • width=”640″
  • Video Loop – loop=”true”
  • The player aspect ratio is set to “16:9” by default. Can be changed e.g. ratio=”4:3″
  • Poster image
    poster=”http://example.com/wp-content/uploads/images/poster.jpg”

  • To mute – set “muted” option to “true” in the shortcode:
    muted=”true

  • custom classes
    You can specify more than one class (separated by whitespaces) in the shortcode – class=”myclass1 myclass2″

  • Player Template
    By default, the player uses the Plyr template. However, you can choose a different player template using the template parameter.
    evp_embed_video url=”http://example.com/wp-content/uploads/videos/vid1.mp4″ template=”mediaelement”

  • Video Preload
    By default, the mediaelement template only renders the metadata of a video when the page loads. If you want to change this behavior you can set the “preload” option to “auto” or “none” in the shortcode.

    “metadata”: Only metadata should be loaded when the page loads (default)
    “auto”: The video should be loaded entirely when the page loads
    “none”: The video should not be loaded when the page loads
    evp_embed_video url=”http://example.com/wp-content/uploads/videos/vid1.mp4″ preload=”auto” template=”mediaelement”

  • Center Video
    By default, the mediaelement player is aligned to the left. However, you can use this method to align the video in the middle.

    Open your theme customizer
    Add this CSS under “Appearance -> Customize > Additional CSS”
    .wp-video {
    text-align: center;
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
    }

Security Proxys

cloudflare – cloudfront
https://wp-rocket.me/blog/cloudflare-vs-cloudfront/

yeah, we generally ask for a security proxy like Cloudflare or GES or sucuri. there are lots of security proxy services out there that could greatly benefit the security of the site.
it doesnt have to be our proxy , it can be any security proxy that works well with WordPress.
avatar
hahah – we really should have used cloudflare – we are using cloudfront – s3 bucket
ahhh – so another paid service type deal –
Christian R
yeah, generally paid services. I think Cloudflare has some free security settings on a basic account but for a very strict security shell, its likely going to be a paid service.

There are two things we do with heartbeat. First, we throttle the Heartbeat rate from the default of 15 seconds down to every 60 seconds. Then, we disable the Heartbeat script entirely on non-editing pages (which I am about to have it enabled on the non-editing pages).

wp rocket only folders in cache / moving config / cache

?nocache – to url pingdom / gmetrix – to see w/o wprocket
add ?ao_noptimize=1 to your URL to disable AO

https://docs.wp-rocket.me/article/893-handling-external-resources – external

wp-content/cache folders manually via FTP (wp-rocket, min, busting, critical-css)
https://docs.wp-rocket.me/article/1118-specify-a-custom-cache-folder

is happening because the JS or CSS (see how many files you have in wp-content/cache/autoptimize/js vs wp-content/cache/autoptimize/css to see which one is causeing this) between two pages is different, in which case there no cached version and a new cache-file is created.

if both aggregate inline css/ js are already de-activated, the problem could be due to a plugin (or your theme) writing their own dynamic code into static (cached) files, typically in wp-content/cache (like AO does) or wp-content/uploads. have a look at your unoptimized HTML source (add ?ao_noptimize=1 to your URL to disable AO, allowing you to see the page without autoptimize), try to find such URL’s and exclude them from Autopimization.

critical css

I only see (one “P” and multiple) “N” jobs and no rules and I’m getting “WordPress cron”-warnings, what should I do?
If all jobs remain in “N” (and one is_front_page job is “P”) then wordpress “cron job” that does the queue processing is not getting triggered. To verify you can install the “wp crontrol”-plugin and then under Tools -> Cron Events look for “ao_ccss_queue” and check the “next run” time/ date.br>

If the “ao_ccss_queue” job is not there, you’ll have to de- and re-activate the “autoptimize critical css” plugin to have it re-register the queue-processing task.br>

If the “ao_ccss_queue” job is there, but has a “next run” date in the past, there is an issue with your site/ hosters WordPress cron and you will have to contact your hoster. Some hosters’ info on the topic: WP Engine, BlueHost, HostGator and SiteGround.br>br>

Page Header conflicts – blocking js

It seems that the error occurs because the response from PayPal Logger API has an incorrect Content-Type header.

If you are already using the the X-Content-Type-Options header, you may try to turn it OFF for a while just to see if the error will disappear.

Actualy, I recommend to keep using the X-Content-Type-Options header with the “nosniff” value even the above proposal resolve the error.

Updated layouts for instagram / twitter index pages

https://sworddevelop.wpengine.com/dalton-throws-shade-calvin-goes-hiking-jack-vidra-cleans-up-daniels-birthday-suit-ray-diesels-sweet-16.html

still working it all out – but you should be able to get at least 2 different layout types – just by adding a category or custom post type – there are not changes to the way you write the articles. Just need the top # title – to remain with strong (bold) outside with the href (links) inside it – AND – bottom links to be a href=”” with the em (italics) inside of the link. I looked around and the pags all seem to be that way already – so should be easy.

2nd layout will let all the instagram / twitter line up horizontally and wrap.

broken links: google search console

Since Google has long since announced that page speed is a major ranking factor for SEO for both desktop, and mobile devices, it’s more crucial than ever to ensure your site loads quickly.

Your server must respond within 600 ms.

In 2019, Google updated their documentation to include that your site should Ideally load at least 90% of its visual components within 100 ms.

Otherwise, your site isn’t going to reach the first page of Google results, and your site risks getting left behind in the dust.

SEO Tools

SEO software helps companies improve and track their SEO progress. A common feature is keyword and content analysis. This ensures that a site uses relevant language and content. The more relevant the content is to a target audience, the better the SEO ranking.

There are a wide range of SEO platforms available in the market. Below are features that are typically common across different tools:

  • Keyword Analysis
    Keywords are the phrases that represent the content of your website. They are the search terms a user might use to find your website. SEO tools track, recommend, and optimize keywords for your website. The tools find the most relevant keywords given your niche and target audience.

  • Backlink Analysis
    Backlinks are URL listings on other websites linking to your site. These show search engines that your website is valuable and a trusted source of information. Backlinks are crucial in site rankings and reputation. Backlink acquisition, tracking, and analysis is an essential element of SEO software. Many tools will help users identify new backlink opportunities and keep track of existing backlinks.

  • Crawl Diagnostics/Site Audits
    Some SEO software tools can also perform site auditing. Audits assess website structure to suggest improvements. Some solutions will automate the improvement process for you. SEO tools vary in the quantity and quality of SEO audits. Certain tools provide generic best practices, while others have more innovative suggestions.

  • Reporting & Analytics
    Most SEO tools create reports and offer analytics for overall website and keyword rankings. These can include:

    • Competitive analysis
    • SERPs ranking tracking
    • Trend charts
    • Traffic analytics
    • Role-specific dashboards (CMO, CEO, etc.)
    • Share of voice analysis

SEO / SEM – do we need a paid tool / serivice?

SEO and SEM both heavily rely on keywords to drive traffic to business websites and web pages. Though the marketing techniques used for each are different, they are both focused on traffic flows and how these relate to marketing activities. People will use search engines to search for something that they’re looking for, and they’ll be able to find it by the organic results (SEO) or by the paid results (SEM).

Most people search online before buying anything so having a strong presence in search is crucial and using a strategic combination of both can boost your visibility in the long term.

SEO is for organic traffic – so that’s unpaid or free listings, and SEM is for targeted ads that you pay for. They can be complementary but only if the website itself is SEO-friendly first, then SEM has a greater chance of being successful.

SEO is the foundation for good SEM and when you have each set up properly, you have a better chance of getting high-quality traffic and improving conversion rates. Once you have an SEO-friendly site and sponsored ads that are targeted properly using the right keywords, you have more chance of showing up at the top of paid searches. But you have to have your SEO in place in order for Google to see you as a credible website

Consider these two key factors as you evaluate different SEO tools to help find the best product for your business:

  1. Do you need a comprehensive SEO platform that includes a range of keyword, backlink, and website auditing analysis capabilities? Or would your business be better served trying out a free tool (or two) first? SEO products like Google Trends, Google Search Console, Ahrefs’ Keyword Generator, and Hunter are all free to use. Though they may only focus on one of the feature areas defined above, or have limited functionality. Paid SEO tools are a better choice if your business is looking to adopt an SEO or search marketing strategy.
  2. Would it be more efficient for your business to handle SEO and search marketing in-house, or outsource this work to a marketing agency? If you plan on keeping SEO activities in-house, along with a team of SEO experts, your business will also likely need to invest in at least one paid SEO tool (if not more). However, this makes it easier and faster to communicate with your SEO team and ensure that they are 100% focused on your business’s SEO growth potential. Conversely, working with a marketing agency can help free up time and resources so that your marketing team can focus on other initiatives.

Enable Aggregate Rating Schema
Aggregate rating schema is a code integrated with post rating HTML. This enables Google to feature your post ratings and attract customers with it. When searching the internet, people will see your posts search results with star ratings. Even though those results are not at the top of search engine results page, those sites caught people attention first.

So inline comments is actually pretty easy to use – you have to be in the “visual editor” and then all you need to do is to click on the

We can send all those calls to receive a 444 in nginx which effectively disables it, otherwise there’s not a performance tweak we have for it otherwise though since it’s a bit on the design/dev end to optimize those types of requests

Right, I get that it’s just the traffic it’s having trouble standing up to / needs further optimization. If you want your account manager Jared H can look into whether or not your problem would scale with resources or if an upgrade would be a feasible way of mitigating the slowness without needing to optimize further. Jared.Hutchinson@wpengine.com would be their email
And just let us know if you want us to turn off admin-ajax via an nginx rule instead and we can try that out.

NOTES::
Pages open quicker, and the page does not lock up when I hit save. But it is still slow for the page to “turn over” when saving.
Adding images to the gallery still works at extremely slow speeds.
When clicking Tags, it still takes a few beats for the checkmark to appear in the box, though it does not lock the page up anymore.
Most importantly: GIFs cannot be uploaded. Most demonstrate HTTP errors.

  1. Compression

SIZING::Let’s upload 2000px width – 16:9 landscape – 72 dpi images – compressed to like 60% in photoshop or gimp (free version of photoshop)

also these ONLY compress images for you – https://compressjpeg.com/ and https://compresspng.com/ – run images through compresser – then upload compressed –

site image sizing | 300px width – thumb | 800px width – medium | 1024px width large –

I don’t know what metric that test site is using for compression – but here is what it is seeing –

NOTES::
