Next Door Studios Celebrates World AIDS Day With PSA

But, someone is conspicuously missing from this PSA.

All the Next Door exclusive models, including James Jamesson, Marcus Mojo, Samuel O’Toole, Tyler Torro, Brandon Lewis, Rod Daily, James Huntman, Johnny Torque, Austin Wilde, Anthony Romero, Brandon Lewis, and even newcomer Brody Widler appear in the below clip encouraging their fans to “use a condom, know [their] status, and get tested,” which is a great message to promote. Good for Next Door Studios!

Except, there’s one exclusive—a certain beloved gay porn icon who is Next Door’s crown jewel and the reigning king of gay porn—who is nowhere to be found in this PSA. Uh oh…

Which Next Door model does the best job at convincing u to get an HIV test?
If u get tested and it turns out u have AIDS, which Next Door model would u blame for convincing u to get tested?
Is this ad more effective, less effective, or equally as effective as Chi Chi LaRue’s “Shut Your Hole” PSA?
Was Cody Cummings “too busy” to appear in this PSA, or was he just all, “meh, fuck those fags”?
Is an “AIDS Cocktail” like an Appletini, but with AIDS?
How are u more likely to get AIDS: From a toilet seat or a mosquito?

ADDED: LOL. I just realized NextDoor’s Trystan Bull isn’t in the clip either, which I guess should tell you how much I think about Trystan Bull.

  1. That bored me to death… if you want these PSA’s to be affective i think you need them to be more like those smoking commercials that always come on while your in the middle of eating something. They get in your head and make you sick to your stomach.
A bunch of porn stars smiling into a camera saying “go get tested” is not going to make anyone get off their asses… its a swell attempt to show concern, but you need to show everything that makes having HIV such an awful thing to live with to get results… just saying.

Oh and is it me or was that bad lighting all around…. hhhmmmmm…

    1. I agree but I guess they don’t want to show anything too awful because they don’t want to stir up prjudice towards anyone who’s HIV+, and they have to give out that dual message of [1] Don’t get too discouraged if you have it because it’s not the end of the world and you can still have a long and good life and [2] You really don’t want to get it in the first place.

  2. Zach don’t you get tired writing all the comments here to make people think someone buys into your faux controversial stories?

    1. I’m not sure that’s the best example of the benefits of knowing your status. When he sero-converted he got fired from his job and treated like a filthy leper by his former employers. Then he got his status outed to the world, first by his ex-housemate and then by an opportunistic blogger. He’s not exactly had the most wildly successful career since then, especially compared with how many of the big studios he worked with before.

        1. Fair enough but Mason had to cover himself by telling Porter he had hepatitis and Porter got on twitter and said “So first of all THE WYLERS are spreading disease.” and Mark Wilson assumed Porter was alluding to HIV. Outing someone’s status of having hepatitis is still a pretty lousy thing to do, especially being as he’s never once apologised for it.

          1. No, Mark Wilson knew all along that Wyler was positive. Porter talking about Hep C, though wrong, had nothing to do with Mark Wilson publishing Wyler’s status. Two completely separate incidents.

          2. I’m in two minds whether they were seperate incidents or not. They happened on the same day and there was a causal link inasmuch as Mark Wilson wrote that article about Porter’s tweet, and yet Mark had fundamentally misunderstood the tweet.

This is my understanding of what happened:

May/June 2010: Mason Wyler tests positive for HIV and bloggers are informed and respect his privacy, Mark Wilson with the caveat that he’s going to monitor Mason’s behaviour – whether he updates his HIV status on his Adam4Adam profile for example.

Mason is no longer flying out to work and doesn’t want to tell his housemate it’s because he’s HIV+ so tells him he has Hep C.

On August the 19th Porter tweets “So first of all THE WYLERS are spreading disease.” meaning hep C

On the same day, Mark Wilson sees the tweet, assumes it refers to HIV, is filled with moral outrage and writes a blog post outing Mason’s HIV status.

I think I’ve just got blinkered to the fact it wasn’t really Porter’s fault because it was a pretty scummy thing Porter was doing and he was still outing Mason’s health status but just in a different way.

          3. I mean there’s a hell of a parallel. Porter Wescott, who has been told that Mason Wyler has a certain disease that has caused him to lose his job, decides to tell the world about it in the belief that it will stop Mason spreading said disease.

Later that day, Mark Wilson, who has been told that Mason Wyler has a certain disease that has caused him to lose his job, decides to tell the world about it in the belief that it will stop Mason spreading said disease.

Who knows whether Porter would have done his “public service announcement” if he knew it was really HIV.

          4. They could very well be total attention whores out for more blog hits. I’m sure I remember them claiming it was in the public interest though. I remember Porter tweeting things like “I’m just looking out for you boys.”

          5. I’m not trying to beat a dead horse here but I’ve been thinking about it a bit more and although it wasn’t technically Porter’s fault, I feel like it may as well have been because what he did was so near-identical to what would have made it technically his fault i.e. he broadcasted Mason’s Hep C status to the world, not his HIV status.

That could have resulted in the exact same “So first of all THE WYLERS are spreading disease.” tweet and the exact same chain of events after.

My only question is whether Porter considers HIV a more stigmatising and career-destroying health condition for a porn star and would have had the decency to keep quiet about that one.

Although Mark Wilson thought Porter had let the cat out of the bag, it’s no really no excuse to take some vague tweet of an aggrieved and rambling ex-housemate and fill in the details and give it a ton of extra publicity. In fact with the timing of it it looks likely he was more concerned about getting a scoop rather than having a sudden concern for the health of people Mason may have been hooking up with.

    1. It seems like slimy Sirard can’t do anything without writing a press release about it. It actually seems like a good tactic too, “We are so charitable, let’s give our money to this great cause that we know won’t accept it so we get all the glory of donating without having to pay a dime.”

  3. Love the PSA. Best one Out! Great info and the guys kept it real. I find it hard to believe that people hate as much as they do. I just wish your were not like a bunch of Nazi’s and included Positive actors also. I sure they don’t like to be excluded in work and putting out a good psa. We all know how it is passed, so to be so exclusive and not hire or work with someone that is HIV positive in the sex industry is (you can put in your own word). The word for the blank is not (safe), what your do is cruel and does not set a good example of professionalism.

  4. It rings a little hollow since most of them didn’t “wrap it up” when they shot for Jake Cruise’s now defunct Straight Guys For Gay Eyes site. Also Brody Wilder is an established bareback performer at Chaos Men. The “Shut Your Hole” PSA had a number of performers that had either barebacked in the past or had current barebacking scenes out, which throws your credibility out the window. I too would be interested in how much $$$ was actually donated from the event that Zach posted. Sadly a lot of times after expenses are paid at these events almost nothing is left to donate. Also there are a lot of people who make a career out of being “charity fundraisers”. I too would be interested to know how much they actually donate.

Cody was probably shooting photos of some of those “dime pieces” he talks about for his fledgling photography career.

  5. Sammy has mistaken overactive eyebrow syndrome with smiling with your eyes. Marcus just looks pleasantly buzzed. I was not expecting The Odious Tyler Torro to be able to speak that clearly. Jimbo sure was cute, though. (I’m sorry. I cannot help myself.)

(Which one is Trystan Bull, again?)

    1. I’m actually kind of refreshed by everyone’s dressed-down faces. Usually, NDS has that real enthusiastic makeup lady slather them.

  6. I can’t get tested …it drives me crazy ..although i’ve never bb..ever, the thought of getting tested always terrified me when i would go for the results i thought i was going to throw up. i just don’t fuck anymore i jo, kiss play touchy feely sucky dicky etc.. some times i miss the fucking but then i remember what i was like going through the testing ugh…oh and i watch A LOT of porn LOL

  7. If Cody said “I want you to go get tested…” I’d assume they cut it before he finished the sentence:

“…although it doesn’t matter to me whether you’re tested or not because I’ll only let you suck my dick while I stand here with a horrible, supercilious sneer on my face.”

  8. I might hate nds but I am glad they did this…And glad they did not have cody in it as that would just take away from the true message of this video.

  9. Its just a PSA…thats it….bit like lip service. If they want to use their “star power” to do something then raise a bunch of money through charities and the like for that day. Everybody does PSAs but nobody wants to put anything concrete behind it. Now if you do something exciting and creative to raise money for that day then we’ll pay attention. This belongs on the major TV networks along with all the other PSAs.

      1. Still doesn’t make up for all the other shit they pull. NDS is about profit gain and nothing else. So highly doubt they donate money to anyone other than that piece of trash, Cody Cummings.

        1. It’s amazing how you make all these illogical statements, yet you don’t know a FUCKING THING about any part of this industry, especially one studio within it. I can tell you without an absolute doubt that you are a fucking moron.

          1. I’m not going to hold my breath for actual financial statements on the amount raised at their little party?

Something tells me the money went back into their little fundraiser event itself, rather than maximum profits earned toward the actual charitable cause.

Classical PR stunt. Has no merit within the confines of fundraising. NDS probably only could donate a few thousand, and the rest of the amount went towards the organization itself in some fashion.

I know many other corporate entities that attempt this, and don’t pull enough in cover expenses outside of the funding for the cause.

Call me skeptical, but this is a ploy for PR.

          2. Read the fine print: “A PORTION of the proceeds from Friday’s event were also donated to “Until There’s a Cure.””

          3. with all there offers of membership discounts they must be hurting badly.

the fundraising is meant to raise their image/pr rather than do some actual good.

          4. Well, with that knowledge about that person, I’m surprised you are threatened by statements like that.

          1. No, that’s not what a business is (or should be) all about. Yes, profit is a part of the equation however social responsibility, environmental stewardship, investing in the future and making the world a better place are also important components of a modern, ethical business.

          2. Business should be about profit–its not a bad goal to be in the ‘black’ financially. My comments are only to balk at the idea that this is something worth merit or praise.

In my mind, doing something good or right isn’t exceptional–its just doing what you are supposed to be doing.

I don’t think its something to boast about. Like some christian fundamentalist, who is openly celibate and wants praise for not fucking or being lustful. (My response: “um yea, you are good in that regard but shitty on the whole pride and boasting about it…Do you want a gold star? Why are we talking about this?–I don’t care about your sex life”)

In thinking this way, I cannot gush and applaud something like this– which I feel has strings attached to its motivations(not wrong, granted), which are more about image consciousness than actual goals of curing the disease.

NDS has a shitty profile and history. Its not like they are pro gay or accepting of gay sexuality–look at its marketing ploy, “Gay for Pay”. Straight guys will have gay sex, but only on certain conditions. Its not about testing waters or expressing your authentic self, its about selling out and taking a paycheck. I know, its porn–its not about celebrating sexuality, rather it is subversion and how: ‘everyone else is a hypocrite, but not me!’ I cannot be overly praising them for doing something that is more business strategy than actual philanthropy.

        2. Perhaps you don’t realize this, but Next Door Studios is a for-profit company. They aren’t required to produce PSAs. They certainly aren’t required to donate to charity. But, as Anthony and Zach have mentioned, they have spent time and money organizing fundraisers.

By all means, hate the company. But, hating a for-profit company for doing things (that aren’t illegal) to make money seems a bit crazy. Clearly the NDS-haters are vocal. Despite that, based solely on the perspective of a consumer, they seem to be doing what other adult companies seem to having difficulty doing: making money. If that’s true, there must be plenty of paying customers that don’t get wrapped up in the drama that gets played out on this and other blogs.
