No, It’s Not Unethical For A Charity Group To Accept Donations From A Bareback Gay Porn Studio

South Florida Gay News wants you to think that Equality Florida is unethical for accepting donations from Corbin Fisher CEO Jason Gibson because Corbin Fisher produces bareback gay porn.

SFGN’s headline, “Equality Florida Donations from Bareback Gay Porn Studio Bring Questions of Fundraising Ethics,” wants you to be alarmed that a bareback gay porn studio is involved in something that isn’t related to bareback gay porn. Are you alarmed?

Should people who profit off the sale of bareback gay porn keep their money to themselves? Should Equality Florida, which says it was, among other things, able to get Florida’s archaic anti-gay adoption ban overturned with the help of Gibson’s $120,000 donation, give the money back?

One of Equality Florida’s biggest donors is Jason Gibson, CEO and founder of gay porn studio Corbin Fisher, who has given more than $120,000 in donations to the organization. Gibson’s studio has recently started producing and profiting from bareback porn, which is porn where actors do not use condoms.

A quiet donation received public attention after Equality Florida presented Gibson with their 2013 Service and Leadership Award on Feb 15.

[…]

CJ Ortuno wouldn’t have given Gibson an award. If fact, he said would not have even taken the money. Ortuno, who is executive director of SAVE Dade, a Miami-based gay rights organization, said there are ethics in fundraising and lines not to cross, especially when you’re a political group.

“There are absolutely ethics in the way we [SAVE Dade] raise our funds,” Ortuno told SFGN. “As a political group we try to build capital – to build power,” he said.

Sounds like someone is jealous that they didn’t get the money.

From Falcon’s Chuck Holmes to Larry Flynt, pornographers making charitable donations to their favorite political and social causes is hardly new and hardly unethical. Jason Gibson, like anyone else who happens to work in a morally questionable profession, is a private citizen donating his legally earned money to whomever he chooses (and no doubt receiving a huge tax write-off). If non-bareback porn producers Randy Blue or Chi Chi LaRue had made this donation, would that “bring questions of fundraising ethics”? (Questions that no one other than South Florida Gay News is really asking.)

Equality Florida’s fights for the betterment of the LGBT community in the state; Gibson’s donation money comes directly from gay porn actors who risk contracting HIV while filming bareback.

In 2004, Los Angeles County health officials counted at least 51 adult film actors who may have been exposed to the virus; authorities said they were able to contain the outbreak.

Regardless of the leap from gay porn and Florida to straight porn and L.A. County, and regardless of the fact that not a single case of HIV transmission in any porn has been reported since 2004, Equality Florida is not an AIDS charity, which I guess would have at least made the donations ironic, yet still not unethical.

SFGN is offended that Equality Florida knowingly accepted bareback gay porn money, but what’s really offensive is that Equality Florida gave and Jason Gibson publicly accepted an “award” for donating money. So much for humble, quiet acts of charity.

  1. 2. So what. Bareback porn is not illegal in this country which is a free country I might add where people can make thier own choices. We don’t need to the government or some activists making decisions for us that is not freedom.

  3. IMHO, Equality Florida needn’t give the money back, but they ought to retract the award given to Gibson. By all means, take his money and put it to good use–but that doesn’t mean that bareback-producing scum like Gibson ought to be honored with an award.

    1. Who cares about bareback? The way how “equally” Jason treats his gay employees – now that’s important!

  4. I honestly just skimmed over your article. Something about bareback porn and charity. Don’t really care. All I want to say is DAMN Dawson looks hot riding that dick bareback!
