After entering a not guilty plea, Bronx school stabber’s lawyer pushes blame onto victims, says they viewed him as a ‘sissy’ easy target.
Abel Cedeno, 18, faces murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of weapon charges for the stabbing death of 15-year-old Matthew McCree and critically wounded 16-year-old Ariane Laboy at the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation on Sept. 27.
Cedeno says that he “snapped” after enduring months of anti-gay slurs and other abuse from classmates.
“They ran up to him, thinking that Abel Cedeno was too much of a sissy, too effeminate, too much of an openly-gay kid to do anything,” said Cedeno attorney, Robert Feldman.
“Well, guess what?” Feldman added. “They were wrong.”
Does that declaration, true or not, really help Cedano? I was a bullied kid. My heart breaks for Cedano and for all of the parents involved. There will be no happy endings here. Bullying is not ok. But neither is taking another life.
