“It started in 2019 where I was invited on a trip to Thailand to model for a big underwear brand, then after that, I got booked more and more to model underwear and swimwear, etc,” Dean tells us about the launch of his new clothing company.
“I always loved doing it and hoped that one day I could have my own men’s underwear/swimwear brand. So over the lockdown period, I got my head down and started making cool designs that flattered the body and that I felt would make you feel sexy and confident and that I thought men would love because I knew I would love to wear the things I was designing so that’s where the inspiration came from.”
Dean also tells us that Young Yuppy wasn’t actually the original name for his brand. He originally wanted to name it Young Buck, but later discovered that the name was already “snapped up” by someone else. While in Mexico, a friend’s mention of the word “yuppy” inspired Dean to slightly alter the brand’s name.
“My friend mentioned “yuppy” and I had no idea what it meant. It’s an old American term and he explained that it meant a “fashionable young middle-class person with a well-paid job” so with Young being my last name and Yuppy, I thought it was cool and it really worked well.”

Yeah, the word “yuppy” is a real old American term – from the 1980s! It means Young Urban Professional and was attributed to elitist, arrogant, disinterested, self centered individuals. Not exactly a complimentary term.
It was a marketing term to define an emerging segment of people moving back into the urban cores of cities nothing more.
The shock jocks grabbed onto it and painted them as evil for all their low IQ/EQ listeners because hate gets attention and that sells soap.
It IS old…that was FORTY years ago, and hasn’t been used conversationally in at least twenty.
Hope beautiful Dean makes a lot of money selling his underwear brand. One drawback is that 99% of men don’t have a Dean Young body.

Undergear was never cheap in any sense of the word. It was well made and the price showed it, and they supported the community unlike the interlopers that cashed in on us.
