As many of us already are aware, amateur sites, Xtube and general browsing habits of internet users have all conspired to shorten the attention spans of porn viewers on the internet. In today’s Times piece, a mainstream journalist speaks to Steven Hirsch, co-chair of straight porn powerhouse Vivid Entertainment, who says all adult content is being produced to cater to video-on-demand sites (like our porn patron NakedSword) and can be divided into 3- to 5-minute scenes.
There’s some talk about the economics of the industry chaning, and AVN president Paul Fishbein talks about the dawn of the DVD in the 90s spawning more plot-heavy fare — a trend which carried over to the gay side as well. But the most touching part of the piece is where porn superstar Savanna Samson talks about how she misses all the serious acting, and how she “used to prepare studiously for her roles.”
“I used to have dialogue,” said Ms. Samson, whose given name is Natalie Oliveros, and who is one of the industry’s biggest stars.
“Getting it on in one hardcore scene after another just isn’t as much fun,” she added.
Aww. Can you blame her? The girl just wanted her shot at getting interviewed by James Lipton someday…
