You’re a mild-mannered, non-partisan, open-minded American who really hasn’t taken a position on gay marriage and who doesn’t really know any gay people. You’re open to persuasion. You’re exactly the kind of person who gay people would like to have on their side (the religious and right wing nuts are far gone).
And then you watch this video. What are you convinced of now?
Not all activism has to be docile. And there’s nothing wrong with children cursing! But there’s a difference between actually having something to say and just being annoying. Sterotypical. Hateful, even. If the people in this video are the kind of people who want to get gay married, I’m against gay marriage.
I see the group behind this, FCKH8, is selling t-shirts for $13–$5 of which goes to “groups fighting for equal marriage rights.” So, the other $8 is going to produce videos like the one above? I also see that FCKH8 was started by Luke Montgomery (he appears in the clip), who’s made a career out of staging publicity stunts. Thanks, Luke.
