“Don’t Fuck With My Queer Daddies”

You’re a mild-mannered, non-partisan, open-minded American who really hasn’t taken a position on gay marriage and who doesn’t really know any gay people. You’re open to persuasion. You’re exactly the kind of person who gay people would like to have on their side (the religious and right wing nuts are far gone).

And then you watch this video. What are you convinced of now?

Not all activism has to be docile. And there’s nothing wrong with children cursing! But there’s a difference between actually having something to say and just being annoying. Sterotypical. Hateful, even. If the people in this video are the kind of people who want to get gay married, I’m against gay marriage.

I see the group behind this, FCKH8, is selling t-shirts for $13–$5 of which goes to “groups fighting for equal marriage rights.” So, the other $8 is going to produce videos like the one above? I also see that FCKH8 was started by Luke Montgomery (he appears in the clip), who’s made a career out of staging publicity stunts. Thanks, Luke.

  1. The problem isn’t the swearing, it’s how amazing not clever it is.

Who is the audience for this? What are they supposed to take away from it? It has virtually no call to action (other than buy a pink t-shirt) and sends no message other than hostility, even hatred for ‘hate’. It would register better if the slogan was ‘Fuck Prop 8’ instead. That’s what they really mean, anyway

  2. I’m gay. I live in Missouri. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church are right up the road. It’s tough enough being the only gay guy in around here. Let me put this in terms you’ll understand………. This doesn’t FUCKING help!

  3. Know what motivates rational people to you way of thinking? Almost ANYTHING except spewing profanity every third word. Know what isn’t going to prove that gay parents can raise happy and well adjusted children? Having cute Disney casting children spewing obsenities like Mel Gibson on an answer machine after getting served with a restraining order. I know it is hard to believe in the 21st century but there still are some people under the impression they have never met a gay person because they don’t look like these stereotypes. They should think of how this might play in Kansas before sending it out. We can thank them for reinforcing the idea that all gay people have on their minds is the “fuck”.
