R.I.P. Sword Intern Brandon Dead At 19

The Sword is saddened to report that our winter intern, Brandon, has died. He was just 19 years old.

I was supposed to meet Brandon at an event during last weekend’s White Party. When he didn’t show up, I figured he had lost track of time or had simply blown me off. After all, he’s a kid and this was his first White Party. When my texts and voicemails weren’t returned over the course of the next 72 hours, I became concerned. This morning, I received a call from the Palm Springs police department confirming my worst fears: Brandon was found dead in his hotel room on Monday morning. Preliminary reports show no signs of foul play and that Brandon passed sometime early Sunday morning, but a full autopsy is still pending. At this time, the cause of death is unknown.

As many of you know, Brandon was recently diagnosed with HIV, gonorrhea, and bacterial meningitis, but he assured me that he felt well enough to make the trip to Palm Springs. Did I make the right call in allowing him to go? Should he have stayed home and rested? As an editor, I have an obligation to bring my readers the best coverage of events like White Party, and I felt that enlisting Brandon as my special White Party correspondent would accomplish that. But as a human being, I have an obligation to look out for other human beings, and I’m afraid I may have failed Brandon. I’m afraid I may have failed you all. I’m sorry, and I will be more careful in the future.

Those of you who knew Brandon or were fans of his incredibly brave work here know how much he loved interning on this blog, and so it’s in the spirit of Brandon and courageous blogging that I put out a call for a new intern. If you’re over 18, comfortable with adult material, know your way around the internet extremely well, and need some college credits for the spring semester, email me and I’ll give you more details about becoming an intern on The Sword.

Those of you who knew Brandon also know that he was not defined by his recent health setbacks, and instead chose to live as normal a life as possible despite his medical issues. Brandon truly embodied so very much of what today’s young gay man stands for, so hopefully we can all learn a little something from his inspiring story.

Rest in peace, Brandon.

  1. One factor is the belief that one of the most prevalent offers for making use of your cards is a cash-back or perhaps rebate provide. Generally, you will get 1-5% rear on various purchases. Depending for the credit credit card, you may get 1% back again on nearly all purchases, and 5% in return on expenses made about convenience retailers, gasoline stations, grocery stores along with member merchants’.

  2. Gee Mr Zach

  3. I really do hope you do not publish his real name to protect him and his family during this time of distress.

  4. When I read his post last week that he was still planning on attending White Party I was shocked. If NakedSword condoned his attendance you have blood on your hands for his untimely death. Such a disgrace.

  5. There are two jobs that you should never take. The teaching position at Hogwarts for the Defense against the Dark Arts class and being an intern at Naked Sword.

    1. I voted for Teddy Bear a few weeks ago, being an Intern at The Sword doesn’t seem to be a very lucky job though so I withdraw that nomination.

  6. Someone’s watched Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf so many times they think they have the right to just go off and kill the little bugger.

  7. I suppose this is (very) mildly funny, but karma is a bitch. What if you come down with any of these diseases? It’s easy to pick on those less fortunate.

    1. so you are assuming the person/people behind this character don’t or haven’t had a disease and aren’t trying to make an ironic point in order to help prevent others from having to go through any of this? you really should think before you write…and maybe think again…

      1. ya dude TOTALLY!! i was literally JUST about to stick my bare dick into a butt when I read this article. The sarcasm was on point and the social commentary was sharp! Thank God I read this wannabe-Onion blog or else I would have gotten the disease mentioned in the story! Zach, ur ‘irony’ is so thought provoking and lets everyone know how smart u r………………<<<<<<now THATS sarcasm!!

  8. I have inside information that Brandon met with the DA the morning he was found dead — to discuss sexual harassment charges against The Sword.
Apparently, the role of intern involves more than meets the eye. Shortly after the meeting he was found in his room with toxic levels of GHB in
his system. I am taking my information to Gloria Allred, launching a foundation in
Brandon’s name and working with Nancy Grace to get the word out. Justice will be served.

  9. I’m sure Brandon would agree with me ….. Interning for Zach is a death wish. Trust.

    RIP Brandon.
